Default Looking for a motor and gearbox for a winding machine

I am looking for a supplier of an electric motor and gearbox combination with the following requirements:

    Output RPM: 80-500RPM
Max output torque: 55Nm (co-insides with lower RPM)
Output torque at minimum RPM: 10Nm
Must be reversible and operated from a foot-pedal.
Infinitely variable speed between the stated limits would be an advantage.
I must be able to mount a 3-jaw chuck on the output with a capacity of 40-100mm.
Power supply can be single or three phase.

Could a stepper motor attached to a cheap rotary table work?

Plunger, I have no experience with electric stepper motors. Only pneumatic ones, and that wo'nt work.

It needs to move reasonably smoothly. Will a stepper motor do that?

That is an option I have been considering, but the guys are crazy with their prices.

What are you trying to wind?
A single phase VFD will give you a 3 phase output.
