Default Advice wanted on a hilux

    Hi everyone.
A friend of mine is looking at getting him self a 2016 Hilux V6 auto 4x4.
His only hesitation is real world consumption.
Could anyone perhaps tell me thier rough real world fuel consumption.
Or your average range per tank
    Thanks.

Will it be worse if I say I drive a 1.9tdi vw and get between 3 and 4l/100 most of the time?
This is for a mate in another country. And no one seems to give honest answers.

    Interesting topic.

I am considering the same vehicle. Obviously petrol consumption will always be an issue.

It might be interesting to consider the costs of services of say the V6 and the 2.8GD6 over 100 000 km and if there are any savings then it might reduce the additional cost of fuel a little bit.

If guys have stats in this regard please share as it might influence the decision.

    What about insurance cost?

I had the 4L V6 and now have a 2.8 GD6. I thought I would miss the 4L but have not regretted the change for one second.
Even with a long range tank the 4L only had a range of about 800km.

    Ditto.
The 4.0 V6 is pretty much consistent across all the range it is used in. Very awesome but really cannot justify that fuel consumption. Also changed to the 2.8 GD6

My short experience with a Toyota Prado V6 4.0 is that the very high fuel consumption (higher than my V8 hemi Jeep overall) is not justified by the very lackluster performance it delivers. A 2.8 diesel will be a much more satisfying vehicle to own. My buddy has a 2.8 GD Fortuner (his 4th, all diesels)and has no complaints except for his 3rd which he drowned while launching his boat. Him and his wife each have one

The V6 will outlast the 3l d4d engine but will be cheaper to maintain in the long run. Somehow you going to pay, either in fuel (petrol) or injectors, a turbo or diesel pump, what ever is convenient for him.

    My 2018 V6 auto doublecab 4x4.
Normal town and open road driving, 15L/100km and towing 23L/100km.
The accessories ads a lot of weight and tyres also plays a big factor.

6.7 to 7.2 km/l mixed between open road and city driving and depending on driving style, 5.6 when towing a sprite swing, not saving the motor. This is a low hassle sweet revving bakkie, I'll never sell mine, I'm just not into diesels and the costs they may incur. Total reliability, and the petrol is so much cheaper than the diesel version.

Donít blame yourself over past mistakes. Itís like driving down the N1 while looking in the rear view mirror only.

I wonder what the figures will be over the same distance for the 3 litre diesel Patrol with the handgranade engine!

Anybody willing to share their service costs for 2.8GD6 and V6.

I need to apologize and should have done it with my first post. I am not trying to hi jack the thread but the question is very relevant even to myself.

    Thanks
