If windows are left open you have to hold remote button in for a few seconds. This has been my experience with my discos, fords, vw's,porsche, audi, subaru and toyota. I leave my keys in my cars most of the time when at home and never had them self lock, close windows, or even start and drive off on their own.

My FJ definitely won't self lock with keying ignition or even with key removed.

I just hate these new cars with all the useless unnecessary chimes and auto locks and auto wipers and every other gimmick they use to market them..
My best defence is one of these - the one in the background

Only not much fun until you pass a broken down modern chiming POS with a broken electronic sensor requiring a Laptop and IT tech to come and reset the gimick that was actually not even needed at all.

Me too...but only 36 years and work with hi tech laser and microwave systems.

I don't think it is new gen cars, seems to be the older and more basic ones according to posts. once again unless someone can show me otherwise.

    Pull key out
    Put key back in
    Open door
Now your key is in the ignition with no annoying chime

well it depends ,one of our vehicles has had it for the last 13years and yes it is designed to get into your head.
All you have to do is close the door and the chime is gone.

It helps when you return to the car after a while to lock it, forgetting that the key was left in ignition.

And yes i did have the doors auto-lock once with key in ignition. Had to phone a friend to fetch spare. So after that i only leave key in ignition and close door with window slightly open .

I have a brain that ignores what it thinks is not important and causes me untold grief ,like leaving me at a loss of name of person who told me name 2 seconds ago or where i left keys etc.

I used to have a volvo S60R that would chime relentlessly for all manner of minor issues -- eventually one day I'd had enough and took apart the dash and filled that little POS piezo buzzer with glue. You could still hear it, but it was VERY muted

    Try the following too:
when the door is open and car is ‘on’ or on accessory and the chime is doing what it does press the door open/close switch once.
The chime then should go quiet.

I once was part of an acceptance team where the idiot contracting writer didn't specify different frequencies for different alarms. Having over 6000 monitoring parameters it was extremely frustrating having every minor and major alarm screaming at 1 khz. Estee, you will understand.
