    Default Sharing a common ground

    Hi all,

Is it possible to wire your 12v camping setup negative to a canopy frame wile your main car 12v system is wired to the chassis?

I have my camping 12v setup componenets all wired to the canopy frame on the negative side and all positives go to the battery. But would this cause issues with my car's 12v system?

The canopy has bare metal touching the car.

    Thanks!
    R

Is your vehicle earthed? If not then no problem..
    Is this for lightning?

Connect the car to the canopy with a copper wire to make a secure electrical connection between them.

Donít use copper if the canopy is aluminium, it will be very susceptible to galvanic corrosion. I agree, though, that the canopy should be earthed properly to the car, not just touch contact.

Sorry for my incompetence with these things.

But why would you want to connect the canopy to the vehicle? I am running a aux battery that is earthed to the canopy. My concern is that having my car battery and canopy basically on the same earth could cause issues. My car and aux battery are not directly connected to each other by wire. If that makes sense. Would the earth from the car interfere or cause issues with the earth from the caopy?

Is your aux battery charged by the carís alternator or is it completely independent?

If itís completely independent, then there should be no problem.
