Dealerships have a system image of sorts for each car made
Then what would be the correct insurance approved procedure to follow if you lose a key?

    1) check with your insurance , what their policies are
    2) get a dealership to do it , so their info matches the car

For my brother's car - (vehicle was stolen but retrieved minus the one key) Insurance insisted on new locks for the Isuzu.

10k or something for the whole lot.

I thought the issue is with the lost key and the dealer can't help with retrieving that?

Surely you are entitled to have anyone recode a new key for a vehicle you own?

There's a locksmith in Pretoria West that you could try. Corner of Bremer and Wilhelm.

Some you win some you dont. My remote on my 2003 Mazda D/C packed up. Tried with spare key no go. All the aftermarket places want to install new system. I eventually got a module unit at scrapyard with key. It works as per factory fitted unit used to. I just dont have a spre key for it. Apparently there is a sequence you go through to program keys into it but havent tried. On my moms Astra both keys lost their codes. Thers a simple procedure to reprogram them. Albiet this is when you have a key and not lost it.

We had the spare key which I think helps with getting a replacement.
