Default R5000,00 to replace Audi lost key!! Any cheaper alternatives?

My wife lost her keys for the Audi A3.
We have the spare keys but would like another set made just in case.
Audi has quoted over R5,000.00 for a replacement!
Are there any cheaper options available to get a spare key made?

You could get a new key, and Vcds and possibly code your own, but when ever the car goes in for a service and the plug it in, it will revert to what Audi has on record for the car , wiping it out again,

Best is to either claim through insurance, or pay Audi , but try different dealerships , some are cheaper than others

Keeping an eye on this fred.

I need a spare key also for the Ford, but I am too scared to go ask the agents what it will cost. So far aftermarket locksmiths supposedly specializing in replacement keys cant really help me since the Ford uses an 8C (or is it C8) chip in the key which they cant (or wont?) get hold of. The fob they can do but without that chip apparently it wont start the bakkie.

These no-claim bonuses which insurers offer are such a farce... You are paying insurance every month so that you can claim, and now they try to disuade you from claiming. It is ridiculous.
Let's say your wife's car is R1,000 p/m to insure it. That's R36,000 for 3 years And I assume you get a 10% no claim bonus after the 3 years, so that's R3,600.... If a key is going to cost you R4,000 you may as well just claim from insurance then, or else you are still going to be R400 out of pocket!

The catch is that usually you are not paying just for one car but for a few cars, motorbikes, household etc. My no claim bonus is R16,000.00 so I am better off not claiming

There are so many people doing these. I had a key done for my Jeep in Durban. I have to get the key code from the agents 1st, this was a request from the guy that was doing the key. Cost me R1800 for the new key cut and coded. I took the car there and waited, 45min later and I was on my way home

    Try Florida Locksmith

They did my BMW's key about 2 years ago. Cost R900. So guessing it will be more now.

You'll have to take the vehicle to them.

I got a spare key for my Wrangler 2006 on takealot, had it cut by a locksmith, but that's where it stopped. The agents want R2000 to program it. It sits in my desk draw......

Get the dealer to give you the key code. They will want a copy of you REG docs. They have the key coded by a 3rd party. Key and car needed for coding
