Default Mecer inverter and solar panels

    Hi guys. Just purchased 3 x Mecer inverter trolleys. 2 x 12v and 1x 24v

I want to add a solar panel or two to charge the batteries if there is Load Shedding during day time.

I see Mecer has a external PWM solar charger for close to R1 000. This charger connects to the inverter itself by the looks of things.

My thinking is to just buy a WRND 20A regulator and connect direct to battery or batteries.

    Will this be OK.

Why not just get a normal solar charge controller?

For the price of the WRND, you’ll be able to get a descent Victron MPPT.

The way I see it the batteries are always charged by the Mecer trolleys. As you have 100Ah batteries they should last during a loadshed period. Panels are then only used during the load shed time frame. Seems a bit of a waste for the few days we have load shedding. The Mecers have a 10/20A built in charger.

OK. When connected to 220V the inverters will always charge the batteries that's why I indicated the panels will not have much time to actually charge batteries.

Was just thinking of when we get longer outages. I know it's not going to happen every day.
I want to run a 55 led TV, 2 x dstv decoders, TV soundbar, ids home alarm system and fibre internet.
The trolley will have 2 x 105ah in series.

It will be a trial and error for me.

Who's currently got batteries suitable for the 12v system near Krugersdorp?
There is no task too simple for some people to complicate !
