    Default Beer shortages?

Anyone else having problems finding their favourite beer?

Tafel 500ml tinnies seem to be a problem.

Its getting like Lusaka where you have to go to 3 places to complete a shopping list.

They're OK here in Pta at the moment. In fact, they were on an awesome special a few days ago but I will need to keep the information about where redacted...

Edit: Sean - PM if you want a case or two. I got mine at 210 randelas per case.

It could be a logistics issue. Reduced operating days at outlets with normal demand could be creating a backlog

Insee the craft beers are thin in terms of width and depth. I know they took a hiding during the economic suicide

No worries. Next time I run into awesome deals, I shall let you know.

However, it is difficult in this new place where I stay. There is another avid Tafel drinker around the corner from me. So I try not to loverload the local logistics too much...

Tafel is imported. Try something local.

Devils Peak has a very decent lager, Jack Black as well, both @ R19 per 440ml.

I presume that is R259 per case ? At least, I *hope* so. I thought my deal the other day was good...

Jakes - I believe that Tafel has been brewed under license locally for about 12 months now ?

Not exactly sure how long. But import Tafel is scarce / non-existant.

I think there were logistical as well as production issues the last while. Should normalize soon.

What I am trying to figure out is why you pay less for tafel than we do?

No wonder the flavour changed. Probably brewed by Jack Black now.

(You do know that Nam Breweries, Jack Black, Soweto Brewing and Stellenbrau are all owned by Heineken now?)

I wouldnt be surprised. Jamison whickey is cheaper here than in Ireland and its imported. Irish tax is based on alcohol content. Thats why their Zamalek is like 3.5% or so. To keep prices down for the alcoholic...... I mean comsumer.

I haven't noticed that Tafel have changed, but then again I only began seriously drinking Tafel around a year ago, before that I only drank it from time to time. Quick Google didn't give me anything about Tafel now being brewed in SA, but I know Windhoek gets brewed here.

The best Tafel I ever had which I'd probably never forget was December 2014 in the Caprivi. After a super hot, getting lost, getting stuck day on our way back to camp we came across a little shebeen next to the road, they pulled out ice ice cold Tafel quarts which cost something like N$8 a pop.

Still waiting for the CBC Amber Ale to make it's way up the coast. We had some Amber Ale on tap at a joint round the corner from me but think it is from a brewery in Debben.
