Default Kia Sportage 2011 - battery dead - can't get into car

    Hi guys,

My 2011 Kia Sportage .2.0 CRDI has a dead battery, and now I can't even open the car to pop the bonnet open. The car has keyless entry and keyless start so I have a smart key but the key that comes out to open the door manually isn't working either so I can't unlock the car at all.

Any tips for how I can get the car to open? I thought about removing the splash cover underneath but not sure I'll be able to reach the latch of the bonnet...

    Thanks!

this is why I do not want to have anything to do with a car with all these stupid electronics. They market these cars as if keyless entry is such a wonderful thing. Why on earth is that and who do they fool.
Imagine this happens to your 4x4 and you're up in the Richtersveld or Northern Mozambique.

I did indeed. Those smart keys has a actual key that you can take out and put in the door lock of the car to unlock it manually so if it doesnt unlock the door its probably just a bit rusty/sticky because of not having a key in it for a long time.

Naweed, I just chatted to a Pal of mine, also Kia Dealer.

If the "hardware" on that emergency key doesnt fit, that means you got the wrong key from the Seller at the time.......I suspected that, hopefully I'm wrong but I do think that's the problem in all probability.

Your "fob key" may work, that only means that it's CODED with your car - if the Hardware, the physical "manual" key doesnt fit, then thats the wrong one in the "fob".

It can happen easily - the wrong fob gets sold with the "correct" (coded) fob, and you carry on like that for years, only to have a problem like you have now if the battery is flat.

He advises you should call Kia Agent, you may have Roadside Assistance still??

    Good Luck, hope this helps.

you'll probably find that there is no actual physical linkage, everything is electrical and all the physical key will do is close an electrical circuit to active the central locking system..........

Toyota has a "double lock" feature. If you lock the car once (from the remote), you can open the door with the manual key. If you press lock twice, the manual key barrel is disabled/ disconnected and then you have a problem if the battery runs flat. Jumper cable on starter sounds like the only solution then.

yes, please do: my son did that on his car when he locked the keys inside and the price of the window was way more than a simple locksmith and he would have waited 6 weeks for the window..........
