    Question Prado LC120 V6 200 000km service cost est.

    Prado LC120 4L V6 200 000 km service cost.

    Items to replace:

    Timing belt ?
    waterpump
    Water pipes & Clamps
    Thermostat ?
    Replace water & antifreeze
    Fan belts

    Check & service/grease CVs & universals
Change gearbox & diff oils ?

    Brakes - Good
    Sparkplugs - Good

    Normal oil change ( flushed/washed @ 175 000 km )
    Air filter
    Pollen filter
    Replaced petrol pump @ 185 000km )

    Anything else?

What do you think est. cost would be?
I'm struggling to get answers from Toyota ( Helderberg ) at this stage (4).

    Or should I sell the Prado (2010 VX + OME ) and buy a 2017 Everest 3.2 Auto 4x4 ? Prado is on 195 000 km now.

    Dankie.

Toyota Land Cruiser 79 DC V8
    Toyota Hilux 2.8 GD6 4x4
    Toyota RAV-4 2.2 D4D

Ai, man.

Toyota quoted me R5000. My mate quoted R4500. It's all in the gearbox

Logically it does not make sense to sell. Personal opinion is that the LC120 is becomming a legend in it's own lifetime. Such an easy vehicle to live with. Comfortable, spacious, reliable and comparatively cheap to maintain.

But then again, sapiens are not known for making logical decisions.

Generally reviews suggest everest is ahead of prado in refinement and comfort. But if no headaches from the prado why sell it?

I did my own 200k service beginning of last year waterpump and all.

If you anyway mechanically inclined and can follow a fsm its very very easy and did it all sparkplugs included for under R7k

Gibraltar only distributed the 5L non turbo diesel, 1KD (d4d) diesel and 2.7 petrol TR motor.

I think SA only got the KZ diesel , 1GR 4.0 petrol and VZ 3.4 petrol

Not sure if that manual covers all...

You will be disappointed going from the Prado to the everest in my opinion. I sold my 2006 VX120 and got a Legend50 GD6 auto, not a day goes by that I don't wish I kept the Prado. Don't get me wrong I love the Hilux and the fuel consumption is a relief, but there is something special about those 120's. It is so versatile. I used mine for work transporting ladders and tools, went dune driving( boy does it shine in the dunes),many big long distance family holidays and some hectic 4x4 trips. it is one of the most comfortable places to sit for long periods driving, and that V6 is never lacking in power when needed.

I have already told my wife that when we win lotto one day, thats the first car I buy again( followed by a few more )

Unfortunately my old prado is not the one I can buy though, it was lost to the ocean last year in sandwich harbor, poor thing was turned into a pancake. Not once was that car recovered by another vehicle while it was in the family (it was my father in laws from new) thats 220 000km's never pulled out, yet it recovered many vehicles including a jeep rubicon in the Ugab river fond memories that.
    Current: 2019 Legend 50 D/C auto 4x4 - still to be named.
    Previous:
'06 Prado VX - Nickname Bruce
'05 Ford Ranger Supercab 2.5TD XLT - Big Joe
    '06 Fiesta ST - Thor
    '97 Mazda 1300 rustler - Joe
    '81 1100 2door VW golfie - Tracey

A friend that had a Prado120, replaced it with a Hilux 2.8 GD-6 ( I think Dakar ). He told me that he shouldn't have sold his Prado and wish he'd never bought the Hilux. "Jy weet nie wat jy het nie" was his words.

And he spent around R75 000 on his Prado on 250 000 km. The engine lost water, so he overhauled the head and did some other stuff like to replace the water pump and pipes. At the end it was a hair size hole in the radiator. And he still think he made a mistake to sell the Prado.

So I think the disappointment from Prado to Holux would be due to bouncy and hard rear suspension setup when unladen.

This makes me.thinking, is it possible to replace Hilux rear suspension with fortuners... especially for.those seeking better ride comfort?
