Wow. That guy had a lot of common sense and calmness. He didn't get much King Air specific info from ATC, he just made it work. Not many people would have been able to do that

That guy has to be a natural, it takes a while to get your hand foot eye coordination even close. Landing is the hardest part of flying amongst a few other things and he managed to walk away. He had been taught the basics even if it was a while back, it's a bit like riding a bicycle.

In aviation we say a good landing is one you walk away from, an excellent landing is one where you are able to use the aircraft again.

If he did not have that 80 hours under the belt, this would in all likelihood have turned out much different. If it was me, that bird would probably have ended up in the drink. Actually quite shocking ow he did not get any real support

Not that a King Air is a particularly difficult aircraft to fly, but there is a lot going on in the cockpit and the controls are very sensitive.

He wasn't even given a basic torque setting to fly (which he asked for, a few times). For me, that was the most impressive part, that he somehow got the power right.

And he didn't have a meltdown in what was for him a very complex unfamiliar cockpit, and a situation which must have been out-of-this-world stressful.

I was very keen and eager to watch, till I got to the 2min mark where it said that he was into flying, years before, and had completed his licence.
So the "non aviation person" is not completely correct Francois.

    I then stopped watching.

I was talking about myself being the non aviation person.

If you didn't watch any further I don't think you're qualified to comment really.

Agreed, he did very well. Even 80 hours in a simple 172 cockpit cannot prepare a person for that King Air cockpit. Not to mention the difference in speed and power between the 2 planes. But he got the airspeed fairly constant in the end.

I think that especially the landing was saved by his prior experience. I doubt person without flying experience would have managed to land the plane.

    Respect x 2. I enjoyed the video.

    Awesome! Staying cool under pressure..
The best part is when he says to the air traffic controller, "Just me and the good Lord hand flying this..."
