    Default FJ almost completed photos

Hi Guys, thanks for the welcome to the site. I've attached, a few photos of the almost completed FJ, now it's just a few minor things. I can't believe how much I've gotten through during the lock down period, luckily I'd already bought most of what I needed months ago.Click image for larger version.

Great work. Where are you off to?

I did the same with a JK 2dr that I had ex the tent. Also had a Engel on a drop slide mounted to the top of my drawer system. The noise of the Engel drove me mad so I sold the fridge. Hope yours are less noisy.

Hi. No problem at all with the Engle but the fridge slider had too much play [Clarence] between the rollers and guide rails so I glued a strip of 1mm melamine to the inside of the guide rail and now its fine with no side ways movement.

I've done two shake down trips over to Sutherland so far and was awaiting a friend who was due to arrive at the end of March from the UK and we were off to the Ricktersveld for two weeks but that had to be put off with the lockdown, disappointing but I got stuck in and worked on the FJ which made up for it.

Ive ridden up to the Angolan boarder 3 times on motor cycles, now I want to do it again later this year but with the comfort of the FJ this time.
    Thanks for you kind remarks.

Sorry to reply in English but I've only been here 38 years so my Africans isn't very good, unless you swear at me
The first thing I did when I got the vehicle home was to remove the back seats, as capable off road as this vehicle is and as much as I wanted one there's no way I would have attempted to build an overland vehicle with the space left behind the back seats.
luckily, I've always considered myself to be a loner but as it turns out I'm just a very good social distancer so having only one seat in the car isn't a problem for me.
Standing at a height of 1.55m and being described as quite a tall midget [No offense meant] I can even sleep in the vehicle now with room to spare.
    Thanks for your kind remarks.

Hi Spare wheel. Your absolutely right and I realized after my title of "Almost completed" was wrong because I've already started making plans to change a few things. The layout configuration is fine, I've started looking at using an induction plate instead of gas for cooking, I have a 1000 watt inverter at the moment so I need to upgrade that straight away to power the double induction plate.

I also intend to use [Now you guys are going to think I'm a real wuss] an electric blanket in the roof top tent, I love roaming round the Karoo but it gets quite cold there in the winter, there's nothing worse than not being able to sleep at night when your on a trip.
I've done several winter trips there on my bike and have ended up seeping in all my gear including helmet, boots and gloves.
The Prado and the FJ share the same chassis, I'd like to see what modifications you've carried out.

    Thanks for the kind remarks

Hi Dirtshark. When I bought the vehicle in September last year the previous owner had already upgraded the suspension, he used it mostly at "Atlantis" sand dunes [Capetown] and said apart from that he hadn't used it for off roading.
I've now dialed in the last click on the adjustable shocks for damping and the manufacturers details on the shocks have been sand blasted off.

The additional weight I've added doesn't seem to have caused any sag to the front & rear springs even with both gas tanks filled and a total of 90Lt of water on board along with recovery equipment and my sandwiches.
Ive purposely left this up grade alone knowing I will at least have to change the shocks once all the weight has been added before I take it in and have the suspension tested.

I'm not sure what brand to use next so any suggestions would be welcome.
    Thanks for you kind remarks.

On my second shake down with the FJ over the Xmas holiday heading towards Sutherland I found this puppy alone in the middle of nowhere. I stopped the car and she ran under the vehicle into the shade, I gave her water and biscuits then she jumped into the car, it was Boxing day and we've been together ever since. I took her to the vet as soon as I got home, she's less than a year old and the vet said he could see Jackal in her, not sure about that but she needed a good home and nourishment. I named her KarooClick image for larger version.
