Default KZTE Gearmax rear diff no drain hole

A friend of mine is servicing his 2003 KZTE 2x4 with the rear Gearmax locking diff. He can't find the drain hole. There is a boss, where presumably the drain is supposed to be, but there is no plug.

Any ideas on how to drain the oil?

My Isuzu (rear diff), which I believe is also a gearmax diff, also has no drain holes. I got 2 handpumps. One for sucking the diff dry and one another (clean oil) pump for filling the diff again. Also works great for filling the gearbox.
It is a bit temperamental with thick oils, but works well with some patience.
PS - It does not break, but the pipes do not like hot liquids. I have used it to pump radiators empty before.

It is easy enough to take off the whole cover. Gives me a chance to care for it with a bit of Autosol. (Aluminium cover on Isuzu rear diff)

Siphon 100 weight oil? - may the force be with you...
    The oil is like molasses.
Any type of pump will be much less painful.

Take off the cover, much easier. Replacing the gasket might be the issue.

While it is open, drill and tap a drain hole?

I was wondering the same thing.

To the OP, just take the cover off, you can get the gasket from Gearmax for a few rands.
If you are able to drill, tap and put a plug in then do so.

Small little cleaning routines, very often. Have to because I drive it daily. I saw 385,000 km on the odo this morning on the way to the mine. Yes, the gasket is not expensive, and if you install carefully, you can re-use. Clean contact surfaces, thin film of all-purpose grease on both sides, and bob's your uncle.

Agree, rather take cover off and clean properly inside, you can then check the diff-lock mechanism as well. And EtienneB, must be one of the cleanest daily driver bakkies in SA - great!
