Inherited an Edesa gas/12V/220V from my late father 20 years ago.

He had used for keeping fishing bait on coastal holidays for 20 years already.

Still works keeping essentials cold in my garage. Gas and 220V good, 12V really heavy on batteries so not ideal for mobile use.

Not sure when we bought our 2 x 40l Engel fridges - sometime between 2002 and 2005. One was always running at the lowest setting when not in use. the second hs also been running non stop for the last 5 years. Neither has missed a beat. Had to change the thermometer batteries a few times, and the door seals once. They still work like new

    80l Stainless Steel Engel - bought 2002 @ R6,000.00
Couple of issues in 18 years - 1 x new thermostat, 1 x re-gas, couple of batteries for temp sensor. Fridge has been running 24/7 since the day I bought it, except for the 2 occasions when it had to be sent to Megaworld JHB for the thermostat and re-gas, and when it needs to be cleaned. 2002 - 2012 dual fridge / freezer, since 2012 at about -2.5 to keep drinks, ice. Lined the baskets with cardboard to keep veg, butter, cheese etc from freezing

40l Engel - bought 2012 @ R7,500.00 Also running 24/7 as freezer only. No issues in 8 years.

Overall very happy with the brand

Minus40, now about 25 years old, had to replace the cooling fan on the condenser, still has its original gas charge.

Ended up under a buffalo in the back of a Hilux in the Zambezi Valley and got dented a bit, but still working.

60lt Snomaster (double), only used as freezer in Imagine and 50Ltr Snomaster as normal fridge in Jeep, both bought in 2011 still going strong with no problems. Lots of gravel and tweespoor roads and very hot conditions at times.

I also have a 40 let Engel , must be around 10 years old and not a days problem.Own 2 more , A 13 lt Snomaster and a 80 lt Bushtec. Small problem with the cable connector on the Snomaster, was repaired under warranty. Bushtec about 4years old. None have given any problems, after use they are cleaned and parked, do not run 24/7.
When needed I plug them in to get chilled down , then onto 12v never a days hassle. Only problem that I would say is the big fridges are very heavy to handle, great option as a permanent mount in a trailer or caravan, but in the back of the Jeep, and need to remove at night, not so great,
My advise would be 2 X 40 lt Engel easy to use, plenty space and light on power , only problem they (read all) are now getting very expensive. 12v -220 fridges has always been expensive, but with the exchange rate near 20 , a 40 lt Engel can now be close to 15k and the big ones over 20. Glad I could have purchased mine when I did.

my 60L engel engel about a 2002 model, has had a hard life. Fell off a moving vehicle at some stage and since then makes a humming sound now and then, sorted with a slap on the side, still works a charm. Whether on the back of a dusty bakkie or in a suv this thing just keeps going.

Ek het my 40 liter Engel in 1989 by Greensport in Swakopmund gekoop. Nog geen probleme gehad nie en werk nog gereeld op kamp vakansies.

I also have an Edesa 5 star. Bought it at a second hand shop about 6 years ago. Have no idea how old it is but works like a charm everytime. Have also bought a 40L Engel about 2 years ago but I refuse to get rid of the Edesa just because it works so well.

    I'm sure it's a quick fix
There is two fuses, one for the 12V circuitry and one for 220V

Check these first. One of them, cant remember which one is deeper inside the unit whilst one is outside near the power socket.

    Waeco CF80 bought in 2002.

Had to replace the compressor and the power supply once during that time after about 12 years of non stop service.

The compressor died because I had to connect the unit to a MSW inverter during a trip in Bots when the 12V circuitry died, which it didn't appreciate. Don't know if the power supply was collateral damage.

After these transplants the unit was fine and is still running but with my inlaws as the new owners.

Engel 40L is about 17 years old, bought this whilst living in England. Few years ago packed the car to full cutting circulation resulting in the 12V circuit to blow. Still works fine on 220V. Silly mistake, I should have switched it off.

2 x 90L NL Twins, about 7 years old. One of these were in the car when the 40L Engel got damaged. Says something ?

Snowmaster 60L, about 9 years old. This is a really good product.

My favorite tho is the NLís, does exactly what you ask, every day all day long.
