Default Houseboat safari down the Zambezi Sept 2017

This is a must do for bird lovers, people seeking solitude and a very unique experience,
we were fortunate to add this onto our Guma Lagoon and Savuti trip in September 2017.

The initial trip was so good that we were back in September 218 to do it again !!!

Please enjoy a small trip report and some photos

Thanks for the pics. Definitely an amazing birding experience if you catch the flood plains at just the right time, especially around the Kasai channel and Impalila. Glad you got to see Schalow's Turaco, and got some nice photos.

Thanks, lovely photos. Also did the houseboat excursion with Curt (Sandbug on this forum) at Caprivi Houseboat Safaris in 2015. Highly enjoyable if budget stretches far enough.

This trip looks amazing, something right up my alley.

Any websites I could use to look at/book through?

Gman, website easily found on Google https://www.caprivihouseboatsafaris.com/

You will notice that nights on the houseboat on the peaceful Zambezi are not cheap but spectacular exploring, fantastic birding and also fishing with your skipper. Speak to Curt the owner and forum member (Sandbug) as he knows a lot about the rest of the Caprivi.
Curt is helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Both the self-catering camping and the chalets (catered) are worth looking at and well-priced.

If your budget stretches far enough, spent a night or preferably two in the houseboats out on the pristine Zambezi; go as far east as Chobe if you choose. Sleeping is in roof top tents on the roof of the barge and is most comfortable where you anchor on a sand bank or island on the Zambezi for the night - up to 6 passengers and the skipper - catered or uncatered choices available. We loved it and catered ourselves with a braai on a sand island.

Thank you all for your comments, Stan is right, make the budget stretch and do 2 nights on the Zambezi and 2 nights on the Chobe
doing the self catering option. There is a fridge on board with coolboxes filled with ice, Katima has a good Pick n Pay and Shoprite.

Our cost in September 2018 for 4 of us was as follows: 4 nights on the boat and 2 chalets for 1 night with breakfast and the boat fuel was R 21 000-00, there is an additional charge to bring your vehicles to Kasane of R 1500 per vehicle, this is well worth it.

Please also do not do the trip with more than 4 as it will be very crowded. It is one of those must do trips.

I have not been on that specific boat but on the bigger house boats on Cjobe and it still stands as my best holiday.

Game viewing off a boat is just crazy.

The whole plain next to the river would be full of game. Then you here a game viewer rattling along. Suddenly all game disappears. Nothing in site when the game viewer or overlander passes by. 5 Minutes later all is back to normal.

So your game density and how close you can get to game is phenomenal.

If possible please do this trip at least once.

I will be doing it soon again.
