    Default Garmin Nuvi

    Hi guys,

I have an old Garmin Nuvi 40 I was going throw out but after seeing the specials on the Tracks4africa website I was wondering if I could load Tracks4africa maps on it and maybe get some use out of it.

Has anyone tried it on such an old device?? Specifically the the Nuvi 40.

I run T4A on a Nuvi 500. I don't know if the 40 and the 500 are from the same series, but it is worth a try. I can also perhaps help you with an older copy of T4A to try it. I live just down the road from you, in Kensington.

Talking about that, my Nuvi 500 got stolen and I managed to get a new one from Kevin Bolton, but that now has problem, battling to connect to the satellites.

My Patrol has a camping drawer system in the back, leaving no view via a rear view mirror, so the Nuvi 500 now lives where the interior rear view mirror used to be, making it less visible than before for guys wanting to steal these type of things.

I don't know if this location, so near (and under) the roof shields it from the satellites. It did not bother the previous (identical) one that was stolen. The newer GPS that also lives up there and runs Streetmaps, does not have a problem

Does anyone know if these Nuvis have internal antennas that could parhaps have been disturbed or maybe moved slightly?

This thread jolted me into remembering that I have a working Nuvi 2259 lying in my bottom drawer. I put it there when I bought a Montana in 2015. It even has an old T4A on it.

If it is still available, could I take it off your hands and will abandon my Nuvi 40 plans.

It's yours if you can figure out a way to bridge the gap between JBG and Somerset West. Any ideas? Our local Post Office is right in the middle of the Taxi terminus, and I'm not keen on going there in current conditions.

Guys if anyone of you have GPS that you want to get rid of please keep me in mind. I have GPS on my phone but it is a bit dangerous driving and looking on your phone also.

Man oh man this thing is small (the Nuvi).... the screen is 3.5" corner to corner.

But I got it working without an issue. Just needed a good charge... it's been in a drawer for 6 years.

I still use a 10 year old Nuvi 1410. Does everything I want it to, so no need for a newer unit.

Tracks 4 Africa works on all nuvi's , not always with all the functions but it will work! I have a old 1410 and a nuvi 40 both loaded with T4A, working perfectly!
