To be able to answer more info is needed.

    Size of panels?
    Distance?

In the absence of further info.

The answer is any wire, there is nothing special about proper solar cable electrically, its all about environmental protection.

So any wire, the thicker the better. If you cant get thick, then parallel thin cables.

You can buy the proper stuff later.

Absolute min 2.5mm sq, rather 4mm sq.

As Fluffy said, thicker better. Sort later

Even 1.5mm would do for now. 2.5mm perhaps ideal for later.

I take it the solar contoller would be at the batteries and not at the solar panels.

You can use normal 4mm^2 for this.

If you can't get wire right now, an extension lead of 2.5mm sq will do the job

Easiest option is probably to try and get an extension cord from a large supermarket type place

May be you can get some speaker wire from a supermarket while buying some food. Just use 2x twin flex leads for each polarity or get a 20m extension with 1.5mm thick wire.

Will normal 3 core lead wire work

Yes. You can either use two of the cores, or combine all into a positive lead, and then do the same for a negative lead

As he said. 3cores for pos and 3cores for neg. If you get 1.5mm it will be 4.5mm for each which is fine. Even 1mm will give you 3mm. Still ok
