    Default V6 Turbo Diesel Hilux?

According to Car Mag there are rumors of a GR Hilux coming out with the V6 turbo diesel which is planned for the 300 series Land Cruiser.

Interesting, Toyota has no production TDV6 yet. And I don't think a TDV6 is a good design, none of the manufacturers apart from Merc have had great success.

Nissan?Renault dropped theirs, Land Rover/Ford/Jaguar/Citroen/Peugeot dropped theirs, so very interesting.

You don't think the vw v6 as used in so many applications for many years is any good?

Long overdue in the Prado but I bet if it comes out in the Hilux it will be detuned

I think you're being overly harsh. VW's V6 has done very well. The Renault one also has a good reputation. And MB as you said yourself. Even the latest one in the Jeep is not bad. The one LR used was the only one with a really bad rep.

I would love to see a diesel V6 in the Toy range

As I said, the Germans seem to have got it right. so if they are using a copy of a German design, it should be good. In fact, maybe they should use a German engine.........

Have to argue: the Renault/Nissan V9X was not a great success. VM Motori.........not so sure.

I haven't heard any horror stories about either, honestly. But I may be out of touch.

Ask reenen what he thinks about the V9X. I think he even started a whole thread on it at one stage.

My dealer told me about the current motor being upped to 150kw.

Maybe its just this one they are talking about?

Cant see why they would up the current motor and then bring a more powerfull one a short while later?

Another thing to consider: The rumoured V6 diesel would replace the V8 in the Cruiser 70 series.

Why would anybody buy a 70series if the same motor can be had in the Hilux? Problably at a much lower price?

or buy an expensive Hilux if a 70 Cruiser could be had for same price?

    Dont forget, Im no fool...........😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉

AFAIK he just complained about the fact that apparantly the engine cannot be succesfully rebuilt. But I may have it wrong.

The V6 petrol in the current 70 series is the same engine as in the V6 Hilux. Has been for years. A Hilux will never be a Land Cruiser, doesn't matter what engine you stick in there.

But will an expensive Fortuner be better than a cheap Prado?

Thats true Hugonotte, although not designed for the Cruiser. Was fitted because not enough 70 series Cruisers were sold to justify continued production of the FZ-FE.

    Interesting question.
Personally I don't think so. What makes a Fortuner expensive? Gadgets. The foundation or platform stays the same.
Even a cheap Prado feels more solid and Land Cruiser like than a Fortuner. Even the light duty branch of the Land Cruiser family got the typical Cruiser feel, which the other Toyotas don't have.
In Tanzania, Djibouti and Gabon I have seen lots and lots more old Prados than Fortuners or Hilux DCs for that matter. Seems like they tend to last a bit longer.

But then again, it depends on everyone's priorities how they would answer that question.

Yes many rumours on the v6 diesel. Read an article that says it is going to find its way into the 70 Series as well to replace the diesel v8.
It is not what you buy its what you build.
