    Default Mercedes W166 buying advice

A family member is looking to purchase a W166 Mercedes ML250/350 Bluetec.

Budget is around R350k, so this would mean a model that's outside of warranty. How are they in terms of maintenance and servicing? Are they reliable? It won't be used for offroading, at most the odd dirt road.

Anyone here that has one? Would they recommend it?

I bought a 2014 ML350 BLUETEC recently and absolutely love it. The torque is great, makes for effortless cruising. A very accomplished vehicle. After doing quite a lot of research it seems the general consensus is that they are very nice to live with.
I test drove a very low spec 250 and was not impressed, in fact after the test drive I went looking at Ford, Toyota and Mitsubishi. I then drove the 350 Bluetec some time later and that was a different kettle of fish altogether.
I knew straight away that this was the vehicle for me. My wife and I LOVE driving it

The 350 is a wonderful machine without lots of concerns reliability wise. That diesel engine is sublime-smooth, quite and powerful but still fuel efficient. Some, say its one of those are the most reliable vehicles out of Mercs recent portfolio of vehicles.

My boss has the W164 350 which is over 400 000km.

The 250....hmm I wouldn't go for that one unless power is irrelevant to you.
