Ek soek vier oorspronklike wieldoppe vir die Merc. As iemand dalk iewers raakloop laat weet asseblief.

I need four original hubcaps for the Merc. If you know where I can source locally I would be grateful. I'm not sure if the W114/W115 and W123 shared the same hubcaps?

Laat weet gerus wat jou prys is as jy dalk spaar het waarvan jy afstand sal kan doen. Dit is soms nie maklik om van goed ontslae te raak nie, al het mens dit nie nodig nie. PM my gerus as jy dit sou oorweeg.

The oil in the injector pump is the engine oil and is changed when you do normal servicing. So, no, dont need to change it.

Air filter and front spin on diesel filter can be bought at Midas. Buy 3diesel filters and seal them separately in bags and carry in the boot, with a 14mm to change it if need be. Also carry a few spare clamps and a flat/Phillip's for just in case.

Put your VIN onto your phone. You'll need it when you get spares at MB. ONLY use an oil filter from MB as I have said before.

    It is looking good.

Can we please get a video clip of the engine running?

Thanks for the info ZuluCowboy. Mine does not have a physical air filter, it uses an oil bath filter which I will tackle tomorrow.

I posted a short video of the engine after the initial startup but will add one for you with the engine a bit cleaned up and at temperature.

Sounds good. The new lift pump kits that you buy are different to the one you have there. Will fit perfectly on the body, but seems you have solved the fueling problem. Sounds nice and even! good job, well done.

How are the CV boots? They also tend to go and are not filled with grease, they have oil in, so when the boot breaks, oil exits pretty quickly. Fortunately there is a trick to replacing them.

Finally got to the air cleaner, but oh man it is a dirty job.

The filter and housing have four parts. Top, bottom, filter and rubber seal. The filter itself is a all metal affair with, what looks like, steel wool inside (second photo 2 and 3). This filter I cleaned with diesel and then lightly coated with clean oil afterwards. The bottom of the air filter acts as an oil pan and has markings for the correct oil level (photo 4).

This is what the clean air side of the filter housing looked like after about 10 years and 50k km. The only consumable is about 400 ml of oil.Click image for larger version.

Had a funny experience with CV boots, when I was still young and rich, needed to have the one inner boot replaced, on Mercs it's always the inner one that goes.

Go to a well known company that works on driveshafts and stuff like that.

    "Morning sir, can we help"
"yes, I'd like to have my CV boots replaced on my Merc"
"No problem, we do this every day, pull your car in here"

Now I know it's a mission so was hoping to steal with my eyes and see what magical tricks they use to do it, so, pull into the bay, and balhang about to see what he's going to do. Sure enough, out comes the jack and goes under the front wheel and he starts jacking.

"Umm, what are you doing?" I ask
"We are doing CV boots sir, don't worry, we know what we are doing, we do this every day"

To which I reply,"please remove the jack and step away from the car please, I suddenly remembered I have to be somewhere else", anywhere else, got out of there as fast as I could.

Klink soos my swakopmunt episode.

ZuluCowboy and Reenen ek hoor julle. I got my Pajero serviced at an agent a while ago but when I went to collect the vehicle the service manager asked me what a GLS spec Pajero is. He didn't know it existed. Needless to say, I never went back to them.

I flushed the braking system over the weekend and to answer your question ZuluCowboy, all the cv boots are still leak free.
