Is there any possibility that the car ran on bio-diesel.... because that is the colour of bio.

My Rocky had stood for longer than a year and the diesel from tank had same colour and a particular odour.

Definitely not bio diesel ZuluCowboy. Definitely has an odour to it as Prof said.

Found the reason why the pump wouldn't prime, a perished fuel line and what looks like a genuine Mercedes in line filter that hasn't been changed in a while. Is it just a straight forward inline fuel filter?

I'll probably replace all the flexible fuel lines with time, are all fuel lines created equal or is there something specific that anyone can recommend?

Shouldn't spares places be classified as essential services??

    Definitely.

As for the fuel hoses, pretty much the same, remember to change the return line as we, and don't mix the two up, or else you run out of fuel with half a tank of fuel.... ok,,, I did it...

That fuel filter is fine. Keep a couple in the car with the required screwdriver to change them..... our diesel has bits in.

Haven't tried yet. Drained the oil yesterday and replaced the filter. Damn dirty job!

Got a new cheapy inline filter from the local garage while filling up, too much solid gunk in the old one. That will go in this afternoon and get replaced with a good one after lockdown.

The old lady surprised me. New diesel in-line filter in this afternoon. Manual bleed pump still works fine after replacing the perished diesel fuel line. I swinged the motor twice without warming the glow plugs but it took after the first try with hot glow plugs. The oil pressure was low for a couple of seconds but it then shot up to max pressure quickly.

The car never leaked oil but I spotted a couple of drops after idling it for a while. Hopefully something just needs tightening up, possibly the filter. The water pump also sounds dodgy but the water is circulating well enough.

    So far so good.

For a 46year old car the interior still looks good. Still dusty but I'll get to it this week. Only the speaker cover did not stand up to the elements well.Click image for larger version.

Should the oil in the dieselpump be changed? I googled it but got a lot of conflicting info. See the red cap in the photo. Click image for larger version.
