    Ha!!! found the problem!!!

Chinese 30a fuses are not 30A, they are somewhat below 30a. Fitted a decent locally made (could perhaps be German or even Taiwanese - it was older fuses) 30a fuse and the problem is solved. When I fitted one of them, it did not blow again.

You could see the quality difference, and from the start the fuse wire in these Midas sourced fuses seemed a lot lighter than the wire that burnt.

So these Chinese models are under spec, they could just as well only have blown at 35 or 40 amps, setting my car on fire in the process. Thank goodness....

Indeed, we ordered a mixed batch of them from 1 or 2A up to 30A. None of them blew when we connected them to a 12v 30A power supply, not even the 1A fuse although we connected it as a dead short.

Wood is White French Oak. Hardwood so dense you treat it as steel. Cant use most woodworking tools without great care.
Other components made with CNC router which is mounted inside the bench below the vise, and also 3d Printer.

Inside of jaws covered with leather to protect work.

Great piece of work and the neat workshop makes me jealous.
That toy you have to the left of the vise is one that scares me. Saw a teacher get his fingers in to a spindle, treated them with huuuuuge respect since then
