    Default Tracks4Africa during COVID-19

    Hi,

I would like to post our blog article about our closure and activities during COVID-19 lockdown:

    https://blog.tracks4africa.co.za/cor...eid=c4987afc17

In essence we had to close our office but our staff is operating from home and we can accommodate email support. Our telephone will not be manned at this stage. Our online shop will also be set to only sell downloadable products since we are not allowed to courier any non-essential products during the lockdown period. (although I would like to argue T4A maps are essential kit!)

We encourage our community of travellers to share their travel stories with us so we can rework them to blog articles for other to read and get inspiration. We also encourage you to revisit your old trips and if you have not send us your GPS tracks or any map corrections then now is a good time to spend some time on this. We might not be able to process everything right now, but we think it is a good time for everyone to go over their old trips.

Be safe and use your time wisely to dream up new trips!

    Kind Regards

contact us at [email protected] or send tracks to [email protected]

    Thanks Lizette,

I had one little hiccup but managed to sort it out with the help of your video tutorial.

Must say, I still find BaseCamp to be very un-user friendly compared to Mapsource.

    Hallo Mosasa,

Basecamp, I know.... I am forcing myself to use it so I can get use to it, and it is going better - but still far prefer Mapsource!

I have my fairly old T4A SD card (1405.01) that is plugged into my Nuvi 65.
This works well to avoid confusion between Garmap and T4A in the GPS.

Is it possible to use the latest downloadable map and then somehow transfer that to the old SD card so it will still work in the Nuvi 65?

If this is possible, can you give pointers as to how to go about it please?
I have a SD reader/writer device that works on my PC.

    Hallo Eggie,

Yes, it is possible. You would have to purchase the T4A map, and download it to your computer, and then send it to the SD card on the Nuvi.

Once you have bought the map, you login to our online shop and go to “My Account”. Then you can go to “Subscriptions” in the bottom left menu, and then “View” your subscription.

You will see your product purchased on the left, with all its relevant download files on the right hand side. Please choose the user guide to download – either for MAC or WINDOWS, and then the relevant GPS File to download, either for MAC or WINDOWS.

Please also click on the video links below for instructions on how to install the T4A GPS Maps:

INSTALLING T4A MAPS ON YOUR MAC (Apple Mac)

How to install T4A maps (Windows)

For more information, please make use of our User guides and videos on our youtube channel.

I hope that helps - if you don't come right, please email myself or our support team on [email protected] and we will assist.

    Regards

Got it & loaded it onto the SD card without much difficulty.

    Hi Lizette,
Last year , at the Getaway show I bought the T4A SD card as shown ( Jackel drinking on the cover) . I previously had T4A loaded on my Nuvi67 from maybe 5 or more years ago... but I’m still finding my way around the system and using the associated BaseCamp etc trying to do Track-Back, Track-log and transferring track journeys between and from other users ...

I’m also interested in how I can achieve greater detail and zooming on the GPS screen and or transferring a planned route across as an overlay to a more, even fully, detailed map.
I’ve attached some photos to illustrate what I’m after.

I set my Apple IPad using google earth to about a 1:100000 s scale ‘Terrain’ map of the area around Chuniespoort on the Oliphants River and set my GPS to an equivalent scale image of the same area ... and the photos hopefully show the comparison/s

My GPS seems to be less detailed eg showing, at that scale, contours at 200m intervals whilst the Google Earth map gives main contours at 100m intervals and subcontours at 20m intervals ... ie indicating a lot more detail.

Some 40+ yrs ago I was a Geo and in those days we did prospecting and mapping with pick and 1:125000 Ordinance Survey Maps in , or at hand,
... (unlike today, I might add, where drones & remote computers etc are used, often more than real pick-to-rock field-work !
The military also use/ed such maps...

Anyway I used and became quite adept at using such Ordinance Survey Plans and especially appreciated the mapped detail they made available ...
and its such detail I somehow seek from GPS maps today, either directly or perhaps via overlays ...

Please advise if/how this can be achieved ... is it possble to get a more detail map or map underlay from T4A or Garmin ? ... detailed topography and all fixed land features (excl sat-photo)

The main photo to refer to is the 3rd
    which permits direct comparison.
