Default Botswana Borders Virtually Closed for Travellers from SA

With immediate effect only citizens and residents are allowed into BW coming through any of the SA - BW borders.

Non citizen permit holder are subjected to a 14 days quarantine in at a facility which has been identified.

    Suspect government hospital or similar.
It does not appear to be self quarantine but enforced and supervised.

    TAKE NOTE please

Yes Itís a supervised quarantine for 14. They identified a location for isolation. The WHO standards stipulates that isolation or quarantine shouldnít be done at hospitals or clinics, so I guess itís a location away from hospitals.

    Hi,
Its sounds like EVERYONE , Citizen or returning resident will be subject to quarantine ( not sure how long - 14 days ?)

I have heard reports that the conditions are not great and very dissorganised , no toilet paper and lack of basic supplies.
Definitely not to WHO standards.....but this is all new to everyone ,so could get better as time goes on....just waiting for a total lock down like in SA ...Maybe this weekend or Tuesday

Strength to all !! especially the Presidents and decision makers in this difficult time

As I understand it, the returning citizens are released in self quarantine, the returning resident permit holders (non-citizens) will go into 14 days quarantine.
    All other travellers return.

Truck drivers with essential cargo will be allowed under strict conditions.

If that is the facility in Gaborone at IDM, it gives the complete wrong impression.

The same with the video with the razor-wire doing the rounds on facebook.

It is confirmed that that the photo in post #4 was taken from inside the IDM campus to the outside. Luckily not the other way around.

From what I understand from our Security company that are involved there, IDM ( https://www.idmbls.com ) was completely refurbished a few months ago. Everything is brand new inside. The upgrade also involved the installation of razor-wire fence on the perimeter - for the safety of the students.

I agree that it might feel like a "quarantine camp" from the inside. You are deprived of your freedom. You do not want all this.

What is Botswana's Government stance on refunding South Africans that now can not tour Botswana during this period? Will they also, like Namibia and South Africa put Regulations in place to force the Tourist industry to refund if the said tourist can not postpone their visit to any other date?

No info on such an issue.
I guess this is very far down their priority list for the moment.

It's a bit like the "dog-walking" when others are trying to stay alive through the pandemic

What I can recommend is getting in touch with the recipients of your funds and ask for a postponement instead of a refund.

    Regarding your bookings.
We were also scheduled to travel but like everyone else cannot do so.
Virtually everyone we booked with is happy for us to rebook at a later date without penalty. If you try to change you booking from a low season to a high season price then you would need to pay the difference.
If you want to cancel then the terms and conditions of your booking will apply. These are not always easy to find.
If we want the small operators to survive then consider asking them to move you booking to another date. The alternative might be that there will go out of business resulting in fewer options in future.
They and we share your pain.

I had a trip planned for May / June this year, made contact with all the places where we had bookings. Everybody agreed to postpone till next year @ no extra cost. The only uncertainty at this stage is the reservation in the CKGR booked through DWNP in Gabarone - they play dead, don't respond to e-mails or phone calls, probably operating at normal speed.
