Default Minimum energy requirements for engel

    Hi all,

    Question:

Can I run an 80L engel fridge off of a 14ah battery/inverter system and a 50W solar panel for multiple stationary days in a Campsite?

My gut feel is no... But maybe I am wrong, it happens often!

    Stay safe

    Ben

    Hi Ben,
Short answer is no. You will need at least a 100Ah battery and 120W plus solar power with a matching solar controller. To cater for overcast days etc and no charging while driving, you will need even more solar capacity.
You mention an inverter. If it is a 12V fridge, run it from the battery and not via the 220v on the inverter.

Thank you Subok, I suspected that was the case. Always good to check with the experts though

I could run in Desember in the Koakoveld a 80l engel of a 90Ah battery and 150 watt panels. Engel set at -5 deg.

It was 3 x 50 panels hinges together. Extra panels that I had from borehole installation. Those days you needed a bank loan to buy the panels. Sold it with the vehicle. The controller was a ctek 250 . So sorry no dont have the make.
