    Ek moet se ek hou baie van die nuwe Defender maar EINA, die pryse laat jou oe water. Soos vanoggend vrygestel.
    En die pryse is nog sonder CO2 Tax.

    With the D200 variants no longer on the cards for South Africa, Defender pricing starts at R948 000 and runs through to R1 498 400, before CO2 emissions taxes or the fitment of any of the multitude of accessory packs and options.
    Land Rover SA claims there has been plenty of interest in the new Defender, with “more than 12 000” users having configured a vehicle on the local website, which has seen “over 76 000 visitors” to its Defender pages. "Over 9 000” digital Defender brochures have been downloaded, too, according to the Whitley-based firm's local division.
    As a reminder, D240, P300 and P400 derivatives will be offered, with trim levels including base, S, SE, HSE and X, along with a handful of First Edition models. All examples feature all-wheel drive and eight-speed automatic transmissions as standard.
    The D240 variants each employ a 2,0-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine sending 177 kW and 430 N.m to all four corners, while the P300 derivatives each make use of a turbocharged 2,0-litre, four-cylinder petrol unit offering 221 kW and 400 N.m. Flagship P400 models, meanwhile, are each powered by a 3,0-litre straight-six featuring a turbocharger, a 48 V electric supercharger and a mild-hybrid arrangement resulting in healthy peak outputs of 294 kW and 550 N.m.

    Hehe - was one of those who did a few builds on the website and downloaded as a personalized PDF. Actually went to the dealership this morning. They don't have any prices on the optional "packs" - but these can be dealer installed afterwards. Seems the 110 D240 SE will be the one to go for. Sales guy tried to talk me out of a 90 - which I can understand. Price difference not that much and in previous generation 90 was a poor seller. What was surprising though was his mentioning that the 130 will be very late - if even built at all. And that they were under instructions not to really mention "130". The 21 Defenders in Namibia now completed their Namibia trip of 6 weeks and were loaded on to a ship for 8 week transport back to the UK. Where they will be used for the same type of demonstration purposes before being crushed as prototypes. I did email my build to the local sales guy - he will contact me in a day or two. But these prices are on BMW X5 scale.

    OK, I did. I'm suitably shocked but after the TDV6 issues, not terribly surprised.

    A 2 year, 36,000km service interval as well?

    What will the service interval be for this new Defender thing?

    Specwise for sure better than Prado- do the self build and then re-evaluate....

    the petrols seem to be more reliable, just very poor fuel consumption

    Looks like a 3.5 V6 petrol, dropping the v8, maybe SA will still get a diesel

    This is the car I have been waiting for but until I don't see how the reliability is, will just keep waiting. Wish I had money to throw though .
    Reliability or not won't think twice to buy it.

    That was a proper Defender.

    The old one held it's value quite well and in many cases showed some appreciation.

    The new one will in all likely hood depreciate like a rock, it's in the sector of the market that depreciates very quickly. R 1000 000 + Luxury SUVs.

    Chuck R 200 000 down the drain when you drive it off the showroom floor.
