I was wondering if that would be a problem
Correct. As long as you don't exit into Botswana from Mabua, but go back to TR, you don't need to do border formalities. You can enter at TR, camp all over, including Mabua, and exit at TR without any problems. You don't need to have your passport stamped at all.

My GP told me that typically 200-300k people dies every year from normal flu. With all the massive precautions in place now, could it be that the total number of people dying would actually be less than in a normal year. I'm obviously assuming that the measures in place for the virus would have a positive impact on the normal flu infections. Does anyone here have any statistics on this?

I wonder what supervised self-quarantine means in SA and Namibia.

    Who is the supervisor?

I am scheduled to return to SA on Thursday 19 March. The plan was to fly TAAG from Lubango, Angola to Windhoek and then use the In Transit passage to get the Air Namibia flight from Windhoek to Johannesburg. Does anyone know if this will still be possible with the latest Namibian restrictions?

Supervised self quarantine = something akin to house arrest?

I have never been under house arrest, so I can't say. But I imagine if the police come by and you are not there you would be in deep, deep ####.

Of course, the other interpretation is that the supervision involves keeping in contact and taking you to hospital or a clinic if you start to develop apparent symptoms.

As the SA governement just announced measures from 18 march ongoing we think we¬’re better of heading straight to SA before the 18th. Why? Cause first there is no chance we can arrange to go back to Belgium at this stage (and why would we, our country is almost in lockdown) and secondly we indeed think we might have more options (especially in therms of healthcare and transport) in SA than in Namibia. Our rental car also needs to go back to SA, but that¬’s maybe a minor issue. At last, we know some SA people from this community we can get help from in case we¬’re in need.

We regret to change our adventure that sudden, but we hope we can just continue to camp further in all safety and remoteness (as Tony advises) back in SA. Looks like we¬’re gonna discover the Northern Province some more and eventually we get back on our plan to visit Kgalagadi. We¬’re ready to prolonge our stay cause returning the 8th of april to Europe looks like a no go...

We really hope Southern Africa will not get that affected by Corona as Europe is at this stage... fingers crossed and let¬’s respect all the health recommendations in the meanwhile.
Come back to Belgium, quick. Telenet, Proximus and other ISP's are giving away free internet and movie channels. Hurry, while stocks last.

I wonder how many other countries will do this?

Seriously, they are giving away free internet, but our interim PM is giving a speech right now, sounds like we are truly on full lockdown...

Short update, we drove to SA and crossed the border at Ariamsvlei on tuesday evening. Weíre now at Johanís place waiting to hopefully fly to London tomorrow evening - tickets booked yesterday.

There are still some flights to Europe with stopovers in like Addis Abbeba or Abu Dabi but please try to book a direct flight to (any) destination in Europe as you donít want to be stuck outside Europe in case regulations change while youíre waiting for your flight/arrival.

Drastic measure taken by Namibia, but seriously we think itís the best way to go. You just cannot keep travelling through Namibia and camp on places with communal ablutions (receiving groups of any country from Europe) and hope that Corona will not be spread there...

    keep safe everyone
