    Default Stealers!! Why??

Good day everyone. I have a gripe and am sure most of you have been through this. My 2014 Hilux 3.0 d4D 4X4 D/C Dakar had a horn/hooter problem. My local Toyota dealership where all my services are done and am on first name basis recommended that the SPIRAL CABLE CLOCK SPRING needs to be replaced. I looked on the Toyota recall site and on entering the VIN number was told that the vehicle is part of a recall for the said part. I mentioned this to the service dept and they then said that the vehicle is not part of a recall?? The quote for the part from them was R6451,37 INCL VAT. I said i don't need a hooter!!!! Then my right indicator decided to work when it felt like it. The left worked fine, right not so lekker, which made the hazards not so lekker. No problem we need to replace the indicator stalk which is faulty.....R2771,32 INCL VAT for the stalk. The total quote with labour for both parts was R10113,19!!!
I purchased both parts on-line, R1400-00 and R850!! R2500-00 including postage!!!! I am no mechanic, still looking for the spark plugs in this d4D motor!!!! Youtube is wonderful!! In under an hour and a half I had replaced both parts and had a saving of R7600-00!!!
How does Toyota justify these prices
PS. the parts had the same part numbers and markings as the originals taken out of the vehicle, the boxes they arrived in did not have Toyota stamped on them!!!

not only Toyota... All the stealers do the same.

    I have Nissan Navara 2012:
Mudflaps R5000k bakkie had one on when I bought it. Got some China ones with all the tabs exactly like oem one under R600.
Antenna (only screw in part) R780 odd, without the base part.

    Been discussed before.

They discount on sales prices, and make up the loss on mandatory warranty service costs and higher repair costs to pay for all the bling workshops and showrooms.

If you think about it: a vehicle purchase is a once-off action, but vehicle repairs these days mean that you as a dealer get money back for most of the 10 year lifetime of the vehicle.

A wise Yamaha dealer once said to me he makes 2 x the profit on the bike back on spares and repairs within 3 years.

Morning LMR. I have the same problem. Would you be so kind as to post the online service you used. I use D4D 3LTand 2.5LT diesels. I find Toyata terribly unhelpful and am a fleet owner of them. Would me much appreciated.

It's because we expect them to have big shinny showrooms that can be shown in Top Billing, and there are employees and stuff to pay, and they want a very lekker profit.

Anyway, my Ford Figo hasn't seen a Ford dealership since the warranty ran out, I use a trusted independent service center.

They're all the same - My wife's Merc E250 CDI's battery died last week. The local Merc dealer quoted R5010 for a new Varta one PLUS R950 to fit it.

Got the same thing from a local battery centre for R2210 fitment included.

The battery I ended up getting was a Raylite and not a Varta

Just don't expect a Raylite to last as long as a Varta - they are in different leagues.

... but, you can buy two Raylites for the price of one Varta.

I've said before, it's cheaper to consult a medical specialist who studied for 15 years than to pay the hourly rate charged for labour by the dealerships.

And its cheaper on fuel as the Varta is nearly double the weight.

For those who asked here is the info.
The spiral cable I found on e-bay, Qualitycarparts.com.au they charged 56,31 AUD and 35,99 AUD postage. That was delivered within two weeks.
I found another spiral cable on e-bay from Unique Buy at 12,82 USD and 1,90 USD postage, but this would take more than two months delivery.
The indicator stalk I found on FB buy and sell, ASHLEY RUGHNAUTH, 072 275 1027, from Durban. He posted the part before the payment was confirmed.
    Hope this useful.....
