Battery is fine now. Starts 1st time. Someone took the key out with the ignition still in the "ACC" position - silly mistake.

Busy replacing ALL brake pypies - all of them. Some were bent close, etc etc.

So..........al,ost done with the mechanical stuff

Battery sorted - key must have been in the "ACC" position, all is fine now.

Still busy with replacing all brake "pypies", some (most) are pinched close etc etc, so I decided to rather replace everythiing.

From there to the Propshaft place, check/balance/sort them, all couplings etc etc, and "look for faults".

Bakkie kos my tot dusver maar nog BAIE BAIE min............!!

Removed that ghastly towbar, looks much neater now but it URGENTLY needs mud flaps now

Props balanced etc etc, there is some problem with the front "end" of the transfer case, some bush or bearing or something, but ja, apart from that, everything underneath, engine and gearbox is fine. Decided to not put back that front prop for now, I want it sorted 100%.

Waiting for those rear brake pypies etc etc, I'm sure they are here, will call my mecchie pal tomorrow. Lots of pypies already replaced, lying in the load bin. Didnt even know briekpypies existed, let alone know how they look

That power steering pump that I scored will be a VERY nice feature I think, will just recon the whole thing and install.

I'm almost to the point where I can start doing the cosmetics - body and interior.

Gonna be lekker, I want something as clean as possible, but also as functional as can be, for what we need it for.

Guys, can someone maybe assist here please:

The Lux is fitted with an aftermarket button that you press to warm up the plugs before starting when cold.

I dont really like it, the knoppie also has a "klok klok", as if there is a bad connection somewhere, and the Lux battles to start when cold - this 2.4 is supposed to start VERY easy, I know them.

    1) Leave this "system" as is now, jut maybe check/replace/repair the knoppie, and maybe also have glowplugs etc etc checked??

    2) How difficult is it to return this to "standard", where you turn the key ON, and as soon as the glowplug light go off you start??

    THANKS

Sounds like they've replaced the glowplug timer set up with a relay. You should be able to get another (generic) one from Midas. The wiring should all be in place still.

Thanks Nic - sent it to Diesel Electric , and asked Armand to try get this back to "standard" as good as he can. He'll sommer also check/test/whatever the glowplugs, injectors, etc etc etc

Guys, something is eating this Lux's damn battery.

Its the second bttery now that I've put in.

After 3/4 days its just dead flat.

If we charge it its fine, it even starts the second morning, no issues - but if you leave it for 3/4 days its totally dead.

    ??

Oh yes, I did have it at my sparky, he tested it overnight to see if anything is drawing a charge but nothing.

........Or maybe take the 2nd battery ALSO back to Midas?? I just think chances are slim that 2 batteries in a row can be faulty

Petri, I had the problem on a Cruiser. I connected a multimeter between positive post and cable and then took out the fuses one by one until I found the circuit which drew power. That is with everything switched off and key out. Only fool proof way. You might find some or other after market gadget which is not on a fuse though.

Thanks F, yes I just sent it to Carel the Sparky again this morning, told them to do this.

They must check everything - hell, its a damn SFA 2,4 Diesel, cant get simpler/easier than this.....

I think (with almost ZERO knowledge) it's something stupid like an earth or something - do the 2,4 also have that "ground strap" from the block to the body/chassis??

MOET iets klein wees - maar ek wil weet wat.

Wil die dingetjie nou klaar meganies 100% kry, en dan beginne met die cosmetics.

    F, got the gremlin.

Carel the Spary wants to kick himself - he swopped the + and - wires (??) on the alternator, and apparently that is what ate the "power".

    So thats sorted now.

Next one, and then I'm done with the mechanics............the Tranny Box. It doesnt get into anything else than 4H. But sending it to Andries on Monday.

Anyone knows the shift pattern on these SFA's.............is it 4H top left, then 4H backwards, then 4L shift üp" on the right hand side?? But will google anyways.

The tranny lever goes into this little "stick" that goes into the tranny, and that sits on a little "ball" - that "ball" seems stuck.

What I know about these things is outright dangerous.............

Problem sometimes on the SFA Hiluxes for not selecting low range is rust on the RF1A transfer cases selector shafts. There is a inspection cover between the 4x4 gear lever and transfer case. Moist accumulate in there and cause surface rust on the selector shafts. Make them hard to move or stuck in position.

Wic ja as ons hom hou vir Sev, beslis mooi maak, ons het baie speling op hom - kos my nou maar so R 27000, soos hy nou staan. Verniet.

En gaan so R 60 000 kos, alles reg. Bargain.

Maar ja, die body het maar filler hier en daar, redelik baie werk nog op hom.

Dit is 'n bargain. Ek sien die ouens wat hulle oordoen is lief om hulle die Cruiser Beige te spray met swart wiele. Lyk nogal goed. Jy moet dalk dink om hom Raptor te spray - die ou wat hom koop gaan dit of vir 'n speelding/ jag bakkie gebruik of vir werk en Raptor is goed vir albei.
