Default Toyota Hilux 2,4 D S/Cab - Cleanup and Sorting

    This Thread refers:

    https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum...-etc-etc/page2

It has been closed because of this...…..https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum...Unstolen-Hilux

Since then GREAT news, the SFA is with me again, and all papers etc etc 100 in order.

I've (again) decided to fix and clean this up as good as I can and plan on giving it to my youngest lat Sev end next year as his Matric Car.

    1) Engine has been replaced last year by the Seller (very close pal of mine), current engine in EXCELLENT nick, no costs were spared here.

    2) Diffs, tranny, gearbox all feel 100%, as a SFA Hilux's should.

    3) New shocks and various suspension issues sorted out - will just ask Andre again exactly what he did.

    4) Body not so good, but definitely repairable. The load bin looks a bit off, but I'll see what can be done there, especially the rear load "klap".

    5) Brakes shot - will have to re do them

    6) Wiring is very untidy, Rev counter has issue, indicators etc etc...….will definitely spend a LOT of attention on that

    7) Interior shoddy, will have to tidy that up a LOT. This is actually biggest headache here, interior replacement parts like panels etc etc VERY scarce.

REALLY looking forward to transforming this Legend into something nice again...……….!!!!

    So paar Preliminary Piccies:

Body is still reasonably straight, not really THAT bad. But will give it a total respray, will decide on colour.

This is a 1995 Registered Year Model.

I'm 99% sure the 2,4 Diesels ONLY came out in Basic Spec, the black grille and headlight surrounds??

Does anyone maybe own/owned an original 2,4 D 4x4 S/Cab, so that I can get an idea how it looked like??

Loadbin not new any more but salvageable I guess......rubberising is shot, but no real rust issues.

Front End does not look "correct" for Year Model, I think its supposed to be black in the 2,4 Diesel "Base" spec.

May be wrong though, later 2,4 D's maybe came out with a facelift or something.

But easy peasy to sort...…...new headlights, indicator lenses, grille is cheap cheap

Engine is super duper, NO issues, its as good as a 2,4 D gets. Hyt daai fluit in hom as jy hom rev, so hys reg (2.4 D owners will know what I'm saying).

Pity the engine bay has been blackened, maar nou ja.

Chassis/suspension feels good, lots of new stuff fitted by previous owner. I'll just have everything checked and replace stuff like bushes etc etc if and where necessary. But all good. Everything also seems dry.

Interior is a mess...……......and NO parts available like door panels etc etc.

    But I'll try get somewhere.

A nice cleanup, nice seat cover and some nice upholstery work in something like a sort of canvas would so wonders though, if OE stuff are really that hard to find.

With a nice thick rubber floor cover.

    So.......…...very do-able I think.

Sal BAIE waardeer as jy kan pics stuur……...…!!! Ek kom nou NET van Warden af man, jammer sien jou Post nou eers.

Ek is specifically interested in hoe die door panels se vinyl patroon lyk, maw die "nate" van die vinyl.

Dink die original seat (bench) van die Base Model was bruin agter en so vinyl-rige upholstery.

    THANKS

K Guys, just dropped it off at Hi Q to have a look at those brakes, I also sommer asked Willie to look for ANY issues on the suspension, leaks, props, etc etc etc, and also make me a nice sturdy battery tray.

Anything specific to look out for, or do these Ysters just NOT have any weak spots...…

From there its off to my other Pal Carel the Sparky, Carel must basically renew/replace ALL wiring on it, the Rev counter jumps, and the battery gets pap, so there's some issues there. Alternator looks brand new (and big).

If this is done, at least then we can drive it around and take it from there.

    But first the

    1) Brakes/suspension, basically everything underneath

    2) ALL the wiring, like in new and neat.

This is actually an unexpected thingie, this Hilux that I'd like to clean up for my laaitie, but ja - also quite excited this side, must say.

They all rust under the vent panel under the windscreen. Leaves get in there, slide down to the drain hole under the fender, block it up and water collects. Pull the vent panel, pull the fender off, get in there with whatever and clean that out. I enlarged the drain holes on mine and glued mesh under the vent slots so that leaves cannot get in.

While you have the vent panel off, make a backing plate for the diesel filter bracket. 30 plus years of vibration cracked my fire wall there. Copy the hole pattern onto a plate and bolt through the plate and through the bracket.

The metal pipes that carry water to the heater matrix corrode, and lose fluid at the metal/rubber hose connection. It looks like you still have the original hoses on there. It might be worth pulling the old hoses off and replacing them with new, and checking the condition of the metal pipes. Terrain Tamer sells a nice kit of hoses if you can't get them from Toyota.

The brakes are never great. Power Brake used to make a bolt on replacement for the front discs, but it seems that they are no longer stocking them. I plan at some point soon to replace my OEM brakes with Terrain Tamer or similar.

I'll whatsapp you some pics of the door cards when I get home tonight.

    Thanks Nic!!

Just stopped there - brakes almost done, it had some air bubble or something, putting new pads etc etc.

Looks quite decent underneath, I'm pleasantly surprised.

Willie must just take time and check EVERYTHING underneath, so that I can tick off that box.

Oh, and that fugly towbar thing is also being taken off...….I'll source the OE or similar one with the step in it, I think Bosal made them, maybe they even still supply them. It will match those short side steps, as far I can remember also OE stuf at the time, will just refurbish them.

But that's later se worries - eers net step vir step vat.

Then, just a thought...……………...what about a "UTE" rear bin?? Who makes them?? That always looks SO cool, and would be perfect with the offroads etc etc over weekends

A dropside tray? Or just a flatbed?

I think the next generation IFS ones would fit on, I think the chassis is basically identical in terms of mounting points. They aren't hard to make if you're just going for a flat bed. My long term plans include ditching my bak for one at some point, but I'll DIY it. Then I can have an easy on-easy off canopy.

N1 4x4 sell lots of the body panels if you need new ones.

Sounds like you're planning on replacing the loom? I'd love to do that with mine. Several previous hack job's have made fault finding in mine a total pain in the neck. Let me know what it's going to set you back please.

Nou by my Sparky pel, ek het hom gevra hy moet ALLES nuut en netjies wire en check van die battery af agtertoe.

Rev Counter werk ook nou 100%, so dis nice.
