In Europe the V6 Treg has 210kw compared to our local 190kw max. Any idea why VW went this route since I'm sure our local diesel quality would be fine for the higher output? It would then also lead to 210kw in the Roc which would make for an awesome bakkie....

Does anyone know if they are going to bring the V8 diesel Touareg here? Too pricey for me but would be an amazing machine....

    Hi Hein

I did exactly the same 6 months ago. I bought a used 2017 V6 with around 68 000 km on. The bakkie looks and smells new. It had quite a bit of warranty left. I added a 2 year extended warranty to the deal. It is now on about 75 000 km, not 100 000 yet. I have spoken to my trusty VW technician and according to him that V6 engine (as used in many VW's in similar form) is very reliable. He only mentioned one issue that they have had a few of and that is that a few of the plastic air dividers between the two cylinder banks have cracked. I have looked at this part and it looks like something that can be temporarily fixed in the field if needed. That engine also uses a timing chain, so no timing belt issues.

The V6 was meant to replace my trusty 2L manual which had something over 320 000 km on the clock at the time, but I have not managed to get myself to sell it. So now I have both.

The V6 also had squeeky rear leafs. I took it to VW, and a less trusty technician told me that they probably have to replace the leafs and that it won't be covered by the warranty. I then asked a weighty friend to jump around on the back while I laid under each leaf and found the (my) culprit. It was the plastic guide which was a bit skew. I pushed it straight with a screw driver and the squeek was gone.

    Enjoy your V6!

I can get a very looked after V6 with 74 000km 2017 model. I know the owner and bakkie had no issues. He ordered a new one.

I had a treg V6 so know more or less the v6 enjin. Would u pull the trigger?

As far as im advised, the new V6 will be 190kw 580nm with boost up to 200kw and 600nm

Ive had one issue with my V6(my third Amarok), the DPF need to be replaced, done by VW no cost.

Problem is....the sales service was SO TERRIBLE.... I'm not sure I can really trust them.

BUT....even with the above issue, it's an amazing bakkie. I absolutely love my Amarok.
Casper, so my squeaky suspension has been sorted. And, it seems like it was the plastic guides on the shock hanger. They were apparently replaced. The guys at Hatfield VW seemed to have some experience of this complaint..

Yes, definitely 190kw. The only concern I have with the 190kw version is that it needs ad-blue - basically a fuel additive that you also need to fill up from time to time. This shouldn't be a show-stopper by any means but I'm happy enough with the 165kw version without it. With a few mods and remap, guys are reliably getting over 200kw on the current engine. But I haven't once felt that it needs more power..

My v6 is a 2017 model. No issues thus far except for the fact that both my rear shocks are leaking oil. It has 38000kms on the clock and hasnt been loaded or abused. So I am not very happy with that.

Nope, don't let that 165kw fool you.

I have driven 3 V6 Amaroks, and all of them pulls as hard, if not better than my wife ex 2015 Touareg 3.0.

My wife currently has a 2019 X5 3.0D, which makes 195kw and 620nm. Was behind a V6 Amarok late last year on the road. From 100 to about 140 while overtaking slower traffic, there was nothing between the X5 and the Amarok.

When you say new, do you mean current shape, or the co-developed one with Ford?

I have read that the new model will only have a 2.0 engine.

They claim 180kw and 580nm on overboost for the current Amarok. I have never been able to feel this overboost thing, it ALWAYS just pulls hard!

Well the Leisure Wheels article said it dynoed the V6 at 170kw on the wheels? So significantly more than the quoted 165. And more than the 190kw Mercedes X350.

My 2017 with 75 000 recently had a coolant leak in the V. Apparently it is a known issue and there is a bulletin on it. Only issue I had.
