    Question looking for a cummins

Friend of mine just popped the engine on his Foton, the ISF2.8 cummins.
Anybody have an idea where one can source a replacement, even second hand in good condition? Guys here are crazy with prices.

    Thanks in advance.

Same happened to a mate of mines Foton as well, repaired the engine and it popped again.
Apparently its one of those engines that cant be repaired, it needs to be replaced.
Cummins charges in the region of R105k for a new engine and you need to trade the old one in.
Second hand engine come and go in the region of R45k but you don't know what you're getting 2nd hand

Jip, that's what happened. It broke, they fixed it, then it broke properly within 5k km

if you happen to hear of a second hand motor would appreciate a heads up.

    Thanks

I have a good friend that works for cummins in the USA, specifically solving issues and preventing problems, He worked for Delta Motor corp, in Port Elizabeth many years back doing much the same. I questioned him about the enjine before buying.... after a few days he came back and gave me a few warnings.....The unit is exceptionally reliable .....and performs well .... (this we know already) but never try improve on its performance , it is basically at peak already , most of the issues they experiece come from the vehicle derivitives (this same motor is used in generators and other off site power needs like pumps etc etc)

The vehicle unit can be enhanced but Dont do it ! ...... it is exceptionally vunerable to heat problems, in fact he advised me that if I tow heavy stuff with it I should even fit a gearbox oil cooler (nothing to do with the motor) and also watch the temprature on the motor ... Also do not hammer the motor at high RPM for long periods without suffecient cooling, he does not know the Foton but mentioned that many of the instilations are enhacements and upgrades to older vehicles and many of the problems there resulted from inadequite cooling.

Spares - import them from the USA and Aus if SA prices are redicilious ... we seem to run the gauntlet in SA as far as spares go...... The kits available from the USA are generally 50% cheaper including shipping and vat than local SA. The dealers in SA will site , long stock holding etc etc for high price or say "its inported you know " ja so what !

Recently I have started using Ebay.......I am not sorry...but check out all the offers , regarding pricing and shipping etc etc.
