Default Lesser known Dive spots on the East Coast (Moz/Tanzania)

    Hi guys,

We are embarking on a long trip up to Rwanda, and then will be driving back via Dar, then inland to Lake Malawi and then into Mozam. I am looking for any suggestions of amazing dive locations along that coast line? We will probably track down Moz most of the way from Beira to Ponta.

    Thanks,

    Tim

    Not lesser known, but good.

    Then it it a chisel.

Ncala, off the light house has some very good diving.
Isla de Mozambique off the islands to the East of the town.
Tofu run south for 10 km nice reef.
    Pemba has good reefs.
Ras Kutane in Tanzania has good reefs. Malawi Cape McLear get bilharzia easily treatable.

Not all these places will have boats, compressors and diving gear.

We used to find the highest point overlooking the sea and look for dark patches to indicate the reefs.

Alto Molucue was entertaining Renamo attacked the town one night, lots of RPG's mortars etc. We just found a hole and chilled.

Explored all these reefs in the 90's from Dar to Maputo.

Nacala Bay, speak to Ian and Picolien at Libelula Lodge about the reefs they dive, including "The Toilet". https://divelibelula.com/
The coral reefs off Msimbati, just north of the Mozambique border in Tanzania, south of Mtwara.

Are there dive centres at Msimbati?

I also suggest Nacala but have a look at Nuarro Lodge. Spectacular diving very close to the lodge.

Libelula and Kwalala lodge both have their own self proclaimed conserved reefs in front of their lodges and have loads of very cool stuff to see, quick shore entry dives and very accessible night diving to be done there

Also good spots just outside the bay and awesome drift diving off Baixo do Pinda. In the right conditions one can cover many kilometers on a single dive and see a wreck

I doubt it. A while since I have been there, but most of the really spectacular diving is accessible snorkelling.
