    Great!

Have not missed the D4 for one day.

They have fixed a lot of the D3/4 “problems” including the going back to normal height after being in off road height at only 55km/h. Now it drips only after 85km/h.

Also much more storage space in the cabin. Cabin space is much bigger esp for the middle row passengers and luggage space exactly the same as D4. I can’t fit any less or more in the load bay compared to the D4.

I have the Si6 3L V6SC and it slightly less punchy on pull away compared to the V8 but it cruises very nice.

I am on 255/55/20’s (same side wall height as the 255/55/19’ on the D4) and did a pretty long Namibian trip recently. I did not even have a slow leak, never mind a puncture, during the entire trip and this is on the factory Goodyear Eagle F1 SUV tires.

    Mods:
    Roof Rack
    Awning
    2nd Battery system
    Rooftop Tent
    Fridge
    OEM load area cage.
    Mudflaps
    VHF radio

    Off-road it is great.

    Howzit Bruce

Frontrunner Slimline II. I opted for the rail grab feet instead of the bolt on since the bolt on stands quite a bit taller.

It honestly makes less noise compared to the FR rack on the D4, esp if you close the panoramic roof shutters, you barely hear it at 140.

I was about to add the new FR wind buffer (actually made for the D4) but then decided to first just see how it goes without it. So glad I did not take it. Would have been a waste as the rack is quiet.

FR warned me that I should rather take the bolt on rack if I will put a heavy load on it but I decided to take my chances with the rail grab feet. I had at least 100kg-110kg on the rack and it was solid. I did notice that the feet moved a few mm’s after doing a VERY SERIOUS bad offroad stretch (one of those pieces of road where you wish it would end now or the car will fall apart...). Just tightened up all the feet and did not move again.

if you have time please take pics of the mounting points for me.

The most amazing car ever, every aspect of this car is such a big improvement on the Disco 4 . I order my car to specific 4x4 overland and the day after delivery I hooked up my Cheetah and went off to the bush. I excluded the sun roof and panoramic roof, the rear seats like wise. What I included was the all new E Diff in the rear, E Diff in the center and dual speed transfer box, 360 deg cameras all four, wade sensors, a whole list of extras two pages full and on top of it the came with BFGoodrich 265/60/20 tyres which are so impressive.

So after 4 weeks of listening to BS from LR regarding their roof rack I am very much doubting it will ever arrive, as they still cant even give me a date of its arrival - and every week the guy says "hopefully next week". Bear in mind this was originally going to take a day as LR had stock - which was suddenly sent to Namibia or some BS! This same guy said he can get Pirellis for R3700 a tyre and when I went to get them suddenly quoted me just over R5k a tyre! This is the same dealership where a salesman left me in the parking lot saying he would be right back, after I said I was interested in a D5 that happened to be parked there, only to never return - I waited almost 45 mins on the day as I was waiting for a lift after dropping the D4 off for its service and I am still waiting for that salesman to get back to me - anyway ive purchased elsewhere! Maybe because I was in shorts, t-shirt and slops at the time and he made the wrong assumptions!

(a very nice new car salesman did contact me after an introduction from a friend though)

Anyway, after this F.....around I may order one from the UK or alternatively can someone tell me if FR are the only ones to do roof racks for the D5? Its time to start looking for another option as I am also going away next week and would like to have it for the trip!

    Thank you.

So here is my baby, she is a Montalcino Red 2017 Si6 HSE with most optional extras except the climate pack and InControl Pro (I wish she had it), I picked her up second hand just over a year ago.

First thing is did was fit proper tyres as she had the Pirelli Scorpions on and they were useless off-road, I opted for the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs in the OEM 255/55/20 as I had them on the D4 and I loved them. They are a bit noisy but I found that cross rotating them every 10 000km sorts out the noise bit.

Then I fitted a FR Roofrack, I went with the Rail Clip on one at the recommendation of FR, this was fitted by Opposite Lock in Wellington. Since then I have removed the rack and moved the legs around in order to get better balance on the Rack as well as to make space for a FR Pro Table which I fitted under the rack as well as a Shovel Holder and Beer Opener.

Last month I fitted a EeziAwn Lite awning, I went with this one as I don't use it often and just wanted a bit of shade for roadside stops or off-road days etc. I also like the black cover and how easy the awning is to setup and take down, while also not weighing too much.

Next on the list is a Dual Battery system, is still have the one I took out of the D4, so I will be transplanting that into the D5, its an InterVolt system that will work with a battery in a NL Aux Battery Box, I already have the battery and box, just need to have it all connected.

Once that is done I will be running a UHF radio into the cabin and using the Aux Battery to power it as I have been told by LR I cannot run the Radio of the Primary Battery.

I am also considering an ECB nudger, however it needs to be imported from Australia and requires cutting into the bumper for fitment, if I goes this route then I will so add 2 Light Bars onto the Bumper as well as mount the aerial on it.

My D5 is mostly used for Off-Road camping and she tows my 1.8ton van like a dream in all kinds of conditions. The only small issue I have is the Pedal Delay on the Si6 which means you really have to feather the throttle when doing Rock Crawls etc, however I don't do that often enough for it to be a major issue.

Note to anyone driving in sand, switch off the traction control or you will get bogged, once I did that she was a dream in the sand.

Nice mod list, did they give you any grief for the Dual Battery and Radio, LR in CPT are full of nonsense about these things

    Hey Mr T
I hear you and it is very off putting, when we ordered our racks there were two in the country so when we asked for delivery GONE where to huh two staff members at JLR head office decided to have racks fitted to their cars. Now I hear as of today there are three racks on back order one for you , one for me and one for the Lady at front runner for her Disco V. And wait for it after all of the promises I was also told that they are coming on sea freight.
I dont blame the dealership at all I blame the idjits at Uni part or central parts ordering they are the stuff up, besides they penalise the dealerships heavily for not meeting their quota on accessories but they dont carry stock. And you think this is bad just wait when the new defender arrives and see what bugger up on accessories going to happen.
I told you the Front Runner was a better buy, use your existing rails, cheaper and you can get a wind deflector faring for it.

Hi Peter. Yes very off putting and irritating that they cant tell us when they will arrive! Maybe my staff should go give LR some lessons on stock management and planning as well as communication as it feels like i am listening to a recording every-time I call! "oh hi Bruce.....umm they havent arrived yet. Ummm let me check......Im hoping for middle of next week. I will phone you."
I need to just be patient with LR and their inefficiencies I guess. If sea freight we should get them in the next week to 3 weeks then. (its been 5 weeks already)
Strange that the lady from FR prefers the LR RR to FR's. I suspect they want to try copy the shape, mountings or something.

    Back on topic.
The only thing i have been able to do so far, is change the wheel caps (pic of black cap borrowed from internet) but plan to fit tyres and Im waiting for a front skid plate to be developed locally and launched. Will also be fitting a dual battery system as soon as I decide which type to fit. I believe that you can fit a battery in the left hand side of the boot if you dont have a rear aircon, then you fit the carpet paneling from a rear aircon model to cover the battery. This is probably the option I will go for.

The Duratracs are very Scarce and as such some dealerships are "hogging" all the stock, speak to Heinrich Theron at Tiger Wheel and Tyre in Durbanville CPT, he can normally get stock and could ship it up country if needed.

I had the Pirelli and if you are planning on doing anything of road they are not good at all, I don't know how they are classified at AT as they have zero grip, other then look at the BFG KO2 or Cooper AT3's

I spoke to a gent at LR the other day who had just come back from a 3 week trip to Namibia. He had the Pirelli scorpion AT plus on and swore by them. Said it was the first time he has done Namibia and not gotten a puncture.

Eish now I am confused which to get!

Duratracs are the closest you will get to a MT tyre that is a AT tyre.

    ATRs are more road-biased.

I had ATRs on the Freelander 2 and Duratracs on the D4... if Duratracs came in 18" in this country, they would be on rather than the Coopers.
