Default Why dont more people buy the Y62 Patrol..

    .... than the LC 200?
Looking at the specs etc. It baffles me that it does not sell better?
Is it because of bad dealers?
Will we get the 2020 facelift with the much better looking tail lights?

Nissan has been failing in marketing the Patrol for years...

Not because of the product, but due to their RSA Management making poor decisions.

and, I'm not saying anything more......in trouble already.

Because people trust the Land Cruiser name more.
Because they don't have a diesel.
    Because it is k#k ugly.

So perceived trust since I dont see any place that the Patrol is suffering reliability issues.
Why is the diesel important(with 2 turbos). I would much rather have that 5.6 NA petrol.
Looks is in the eye of the beerholder and seeing that I had 2 bugeye Scoobies my taste may be 'challenged'.

Perceived, definitely. But thatís what counts.

Diesel makes up the majority of sales in this segment. Think about every 4x4, if you donít have a diesel you are going to suffer.

Beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder, most people will prefer the looks of the 200.

Poor Decisions/Marketing. They have failed in this since the launch of the Pathfinder, which is underrated and I would rather buy a Pathy than a Fortuner. Aftersale value etc is a let down.

Until you have to fix that Diesel engine, and trust me, they break. Give me petrol any day . 4.8 Petrol (yes I drive a 4.8, itís my only point of reference). There is not an overland vehicle with as strong a drive train

Agree, the problem with the Pathfinder is that Nissan slotted it between the Prado and the Fortuner but not close enough to the Fortuner to sway buyers away from both.

Have an look on youtube. Mountain trail RV. They camper/caravan builders but have aquired a new facelift y62 and LC200 diesel.

For testing they compared the 2 vehicle for fuel economy. Was interesting the outcome. I thought the diesel lc would blow the y62 away.

I don't think anyone contests the reliability and capability of the 4.8 Patrol.

Question here is though, what the current Y62 is made of? It certainly isn't a Y61 anymore.
Maybe people are put off by the independent suspension front AND rear? The LC200 at least still got a solid rear axle.

When spending R1.3m+ on a vehicle, I don't think fuel economy is high on the list of priorities.

My view on the low sales: people simply don't know it exists. I suspect trying to get one for a test drive will be near impossible.

They love this Patrol in the Middle East and I saw a lot more of them than LC's. Maybe the Patrol wasn't aimed at our market so they don't spend anything marketing it or having them available for test drives (a big mistake on their part in my view).

Have to agree with you there, I also hate the IFS that it has. I prefer live axles

In person I think Patrols never achieved legend status in SA. This coming from a guy that have owned Patrols before many were a twinkle in their dad's eyes

I have owned G60's bakkies. The G60 and Safari had huge following amongst farmers and the hard working class. That were the days that very few could beat Hannes Grobler in his Rally Safari. Huge support for Nissan in those days.

Nissan did not follow up its success in the bakkie range in the Y series with proper petrol engines. The 4.2 diesels and turbo diesels plus the later 3.0l diesel were no match for the 4.5 and 4.5EFI Cruisers. They should have dropped the 4.8 into a Patrol bakkie.

The Y61 with the 4.8 which I think is one of the best 4x4 engines out there came up against the much more later 200 Series Cruisers with the 4.7 V8 petrol and 4.5 V8 diesel. With all respect I think the Y61 were dated against the 200 Series. Matching a 3.0l Turbo diesel with a reputation against the 4.5 V8 diesel 200 Series just does not make sense. This gave the 200 an edge in the public view, not only the 200 Series but the Cruiser name.

Then the Y62 came. Excellent vehicle but too late.

Does not matter how though a Patrol is, Toyota managed to make the Cruiser a legend which unfortunately Nissan failed to do with the Patrol.

Toyota cashed in on the Cruiser brand.

Their Range of 200 Series, Prado, FJ and 70 Series Cruiser took the Cruiser brand name to a level Nissan cannot match.
