R11k sounds cheap at a dealership for what you've listed - I'd ask for a detailed breakdown.

What's the difference between gearbox oil change and transmission oil change?

Please don't tell me they charging you to update your nav software? It's useless in any version.

Welsh plug = the plug (in the sump) that hold the oil in the car.

I dont think so? The welsh plug is a plug on the engine block or something isnt it? something to do with the coolant?

the plug holding your oil in is a sump plug

    Correct you are - thanks.

What does a Welsh plug do?

Welsh Plugs are in engine blocks to protect against freezing (expanding) coolant. If you only have water and not anti-freeze in coolant system this can happen, warmer than 0 Deg C climates excepted. If they suddenly leak after years of motoring you should probably be thankful and get them replaced

The oil is engine oil, transfer case oil and diff oils.

Nothing for Gearbox or Transmission or both.

Gearbox oil should have been changed at 80,000km as per ZF's own service requirements.

I'd recommend that you skip doing it at LR and take it to ZF directly - they first run tests to see what the state of the gearbox is, and whether an oil change will make things worse/better.

Don't do anything to the gearbox until you've taken it to ZF.

130k km is still a bit early for double flush, BUT, if ZF checks and says do it, then I would.

    Good info here

I just did a 130k km oil service at local RMI mechy, R900 + liqui moly (R800) oil I supplied separate.
Nice to see what should be done. Will get on that.

No ZF within 700km of me, so thinking of swopping out gearbox oil just for the sake of it, not double flush but better than doing nothing. Bad idea?

Thats cheap in CT they charge approx R15k for that service...i assume you out of service warranty. If yes then ZF is a must. Also not sure what diff is between gear box oil and transmission oil?

The problem with the ZF gearbox, is that because LR said it's sealed for life, they don't change the oil at the specified ZF interval.

Now, if you tow and off-road a lot, the oil gets worn and so do the internals. If you do an oil change, then suddenly the internals are working with new, smooth, lubricants, and the gears start slipping.

This is why ZF will run tests to see what the wear is on the internals before changing the oil, and sometimes they will recommend not to do so.

My advise , cancel the odour filter (exorbitant price), you can buy it for R85.00, vs over R 1100.00
Easy to fit , below cubby hole
Rest looks fine, albeit a bit expensive, but the pollen filter is daylight robbery

That labour is ridiculous. Its easy to do all of that, though maybe you don't want to.

The odour filter needn't be changed if your aircon and ventilation system is working well. And as Koos says, that price is crazy. And I think I paid around R250 for my last air filter. And Liqui Moly Special Tec F 5W30 is about R380 for five litres.

I don't see front diff oil there. Its 610 ml of Castol Syntrax 75W90. About R150 for 500 ml at spares shops. Thats about the most awkward of all the stuff to do: I usually use one bottle plus a 50 ml syringe to inject the balance. I think the D4's are OK, but there was a batch of front diffs on the D3 that had a problem with flaking paint on the inside of the housing I think. I changed mine every 10 000k's for a while, now the oil is fairly clear. If it was me and I was paying so much, I would ask them to do the front diff too anyway.

Can't comment on the D4's nav system, but apparently it takes Tracks 4 Africa? In that case an update (and yours might be up to date anyway) probably wouldn't give you much value. The D3's nav (I have the latest update) is mostly useless. I do find the off road nav quite useful as an overall view of distance and bearing to wherever you are going on your other nav device.....but that's it
