Default Why do tree fellars use cruisers?

Hi, not to derail or start an argument on the other "which 4x4 for R350k" thread

I noticed specifically in southern suburbs CT, tree fellers use cruiser bakkies,

why? and its a mix though the range petrol or diesel.

Maybe that's where the money is! Mine in Pretoria has been using the same Peugeot 404 bakkie for the past 16 years.

Mind you I haven't seen any Cruisers in that line of business here.

    Because they

    • reliable,
    • can handle loads,
    • can handle bad conditions
    • and have simple systems to maintain.

Because they are tree fellers, they probably also wear overalls. I am not a tree feller, I don`t wear overalls and what is a cruiser?

Interesting observation from a LR driver.
On which of the points mentioned by 4E do you differ and based on what experience?

Nope. I have maintained a few bakkies in my life.

A cruiser is overpriced, uneconomical, uncomfortable, unrefined old tech.

But, it is the perfect tool for hard work. It will handle abusive behaviour better than any other bakkie out there. It is still the tough tool for certain jobs where other bakkies wont last.

New bakkies are great, but they are not made for cruiser jobs.

Because the clients pay for those bakkies! I rather use the oom with the battered IsukkelSuzie! He'll do the same job much cheaper!
