I bought one recently from Mitsubishi. R1800. Complete with mountings and lock. I don't think it's too bad. Remember it is not a normal gas strut that pushes a door open.

I take back the Dieselectric reco based on the above. They have standard hatchback type lift struts.

If this is a serious question, then you and I are the only Gen4 owners to have never broken that strut.
Such a robust car, with a butter and plastic strut.

The one knuckle, attached to the door wore out and didn't want to stay in place. Had a local poly injection company redo both sides so no it didn't break.

Having read on Aus Pajero Club forum how easily they break theirs, I have tried to be careful with mine. The biggest danger is some one closing the door when the strut is in locked position. They buy theirs online mostly.

I'll make sure to add you to the list next time. But it looks as if I'll have to take Riaan off. I know cheating when I see it

Mine also broke a week or so ago. It made like mitosis and split . Leaked all the damping fluid on the pavement.

Mine still fine after 13 years of use but I have the SWB so one has to use it more than the LWB where its easy to put things in the rear seats , but a crap design , waiting for when it fails

Has anybody fitted a Gen 3 unit?. They seems to be a lot more robust. My sons also broken after his friend tried closing the door when in locked position.

My guess is that most get broken this way (mine as well). Luckily it happened years ago when they still cost R 1000 and the family was made well aware of it, so no more "accidents" after that!

As said, if they are treated correctly, should last the life of the vehicle, but it remains a vulnerable design. The rest of the vehicle is so perfect, they had to make a mistake SOMEWHERE ...

I replace mine with a 250 Newton trailer lid shock, works like a charm. initially had a 350 N one, but that pushes the door open to quickly and breaks the shock.
