    Default Freelander 2 judder

    Howzit all,

    Car is a 2011 SD4 Auto with 178 000km on the clock.

So this is a weird one...
My car has a judder/jerk from 1500-1700 rpm (no matter what gear).. When it happens the rpm's climb and drop a little bit (can see it on the tachometer)
And it doesn't always do it.

From what I've read it could be a few things
    1: CPS faulty
2: Read a few things that it's something on the autobox that's not lekker?
3: EGR not lekker? (waiting for a open night to get a blank plate from mikebob)

Has anyone else experienced this? Or a pointer on where to start searching?

Mine did exactly the same, ended up being the Torque converter. Worked beautifully for a few months with new torque converter, then started again.

comapny that fixed it the first time swore high and low that it could only be down to driver abuse that it fails so soon and fought hard to get out of a warranty claim. My warranty company insisted I use this workshop so I made it their problem.

after lots of back and forth, and no resolution I decided to check my invoice, the invoice only said ďreplace transmission fluidĒ qty as 9 liters, no specification of what oil.

im not sure what they used, but turns out they are using one type of oil on all autoboxes with lock up TC, and the oil they used was notctocmanufacrurer spec.

I should be getting another new torque converter next week......

sorry for the hijack, but my money would be on TC. At that milage, if the transmission fluid hasnít been changed before, itís probably toast anyway.

chuck in a tube of dr tranny, if it solves the problem for a while, you know for sure itís the TC.

That just sucks then... What did you pay for a new torque converter if you dont mind me asking?

Now I know why the previous owner sold this car..

to be honest I canít remember, the aftermarket warranty covered it in full, I only had to pay for the oil. I recall it being somewhere just under R10k all in.

I know Autobox in Silverton recons these TC as well, but Iím not sure I would trust it. Their manual gearbox side is excellent, but I have heard horror stories about the Auto side. Ironic, their name being Autobox and all

If you want to take your vehicle to a workshop to have a look at it then I recommend Centurion Transmissions & Services Centre. I took my FL2 there only once but was very satisfied with the work. They came highly recommended by some on the forum

Is the judder on pull off and when gear change but when you pick speed/ revs it goes away?

That's the weird part, gear changes are butter smooth (up and down shifts)
Checked this morning on my way to work if I drive it in command shift 1st does nothing weird. Select 2nd from about 2000rpm as soon as its in the 1500-1700 range, it jerks/stutters/judder.
BUT. When I'm cruising at 100-105km/h and it's in 6th gear (rpms are around 1600) it doesn't jerk/stutter/judder.

I am feeling a gearbox flush might work? As it started doing this on a rainy day just as I got off the R21 at Waterkloof.

It still pulls like a train from pull away (no slipping etc)

PS. Yes landymac, when it happens and you give a little bit more throttle, it stops immediately.

For the flush use Fuchs Titan ATF 4400.
    Good luck.

Had the same, judder at about 1,500-1,700rpm and it ended up being the TC.

Replaced mine at The Geabox Company/LandySpec in Randburg after being sent there by LR Extreme.

Cost was in the region of R10-13k, can't remember now, but it was covered by my warranty.

    I had a serious shudder/harsh gear change from 2 to 3.

Ended up being the valve body. All in all that trip was just over R32k....

Mikebob is in Silverton and has the right equipment to do a proper gearbox oil flush.

I am experiencing the same issue. However is this not just the TC locking up? I am also experiencing it mostly in second when I drive it at a constant 1800rpm then it will drop to about 1500/1600rmp. Maybe this is not the same issue you guys have experienced?

    Try resetting your gearbox.

    1. Insert key fob in dash
    2. Turn on ignition by pressing the start button WITHOUT foot on brake (I.e. Don't start the engine)
    3. Press accelerator to the floor for 30 seconds
    4. Release accelerator pedal leave key in dash, and press the start button to switch off ignition...wait 30 seconds
    5. Start car as normal, and drive it hard for a few miles.

Give it a try and see what happens.
