Apparently it is a sticky valve body in the box.
I will definitely try to do a double flush then.

I also had this juddering problem with my 2011 FL2, also fixed with a ATF fluid flush.
Recommended ATF for 2011 SD is the mineral oil to JWS 3309 spec.

This reminds me of the frustration we had with my mother's FL2 over the last 6 months.

The car went in for a service early in the year which included replacing the front turbo boost pipe. Shortly after that it started jerking at low speeds. Suspecting stripped gears in the throttle body, I ordered a new one in May.
No change(opened the old one and the gears were fine).

Then I started paying closer attention to when the jerk happened - between 1500 and 2000rpm.
Still no luck on researching the problem.
Then 2 weeks ago I happened to drive the car and wondered about the wooshing sound on the right side of the dashboard.
Surely a car aimed at the Freelander's original target market, wouldn't sound like a boy racer with turbo wooshing so loud. A quick Google later and I had the gist of it. The turbo comes alive between 1500 and 2000rpm and a burst pipe will drop the boost at 2000rpm.

Took the car to the mechanic and the found a 10cm long split in that new pipe!
Now that the replacement is fitted, the car drives like a dream again.
This was on a manual by the way.

That is interesting. looks like a few things make them judder (mine still does it, and its NOT getting worse)
My FL2's boost pipes are all still 100%.

Wanted to do a double flush within the next 2 weeks, but have to replace 2 tires now

On early LR2s - up to 2013, if I recall correctly - the oil below is suitable for flushing.

Yes, the AW is a Toyota transmission, used in various Lexii but also Citroen, VW Tiguan, Volvo, many others.

Counter price was around R400/tin of 4l. By far the cheapest solution.

For the early transmissions ONLY this oil should be used. Around 2013 the transmission was updated so it could use alternative oil as well. Confirm from the LR2 owner's manual - which one is compatible with your transmission.

Here is what Lubegard's Dr Tranny looks like. Yes, rather little, isn't it?

None of the above could save my transmission though, and the valve body had to be replaced. My issue was however not judder, but transmission slippage during upchanges between 2nd and 3rd when the transmission was at operating temperature.

About a year ago same jerking as above. I followed the drain and fill procedures as in the Volvo 3.2 automatic (mine is a i6) an 3 x 3l of Ravenol plus 2 dr Tranny from British 4x4 in Pretoria, my i6 is back 99% to perfect shifts and behavior. The only other option is replacing the solenoids what is doable for your local mechanic. Good luck

It's important that the correct ATF is used.
Be careful of the 'multi purpose' synthetic fluids that meet all the specs under the sun.
    Some boxes are particularly sensitive.

Why don't you make it the dealers issue? Or was it a cash buy. Whereabouts are you located?

Morning.... “double flush” is flushing out the transmission oil and replacing it with new oil. I had that done to my vehicle and it was fine for three months. The TC needs to be replace/repaired so in my case I’m sending it to a Transmission specialist in Cape Town for the repair at the end of May. (Warranty Repair)

Hi, parts, labour and resetting of gearbox shifts based on a diagnosis i provided via email was R15k. That can change when they do an assessment of the vehicle when it is in their workshop.

Have some spare cash ready for a new gearbox valve body. Quite possible that it goes hand in hand with the judder.

Ordered a new one off of Ebay for R4.5k and fitted it myself. That sorted it.
