    Question Rooihoek best sites.. question?

We are doing a slow Baviaans trip in April and will be visiting Rooihoek for 3 nights. With a previous week long trip we were unable to get a spot at Rooihoek so we have never been there before. What are the preferred sites at Rooihoek to look out for?

We were there in December. If you want to be close to the pools then site 1 is the closest. Basically 1, 2, and 3 are close to the pools, and you get further as the numbering increases. We had site 1. It was problematic to access it as there tree canopies are low and we had a roof top on the rack. So we had to drive around, but you can see that this seems to be a common problem.

If you want to be far from the pools then site 6 is good.

Interestingly, we came in from the west gate and were told that sites are not allocated, it's first come first serve. People coming from the east gate were told/given allocated site numbers. So there were some uncomfortable discussions when people arrived and were surprised to find their 'allocated site' occupied.

    Beware of baboons.

Thanks Absie. We prefer to be away from "busy" areas like a pool so sound like no 6 is the one to aim for? Thanks for the baboon warning.

    Welcome.

Just to be clear, I mean the natural pool in the river - the Allen Hydrant Pool.

Aahhh ok... that's a different story then . Sounds like 1,2 or 3 is the place to be. Last time we did Uitspan, Doornkloof, Doodsklip and Kudu Kaya but Rooihoek was fully booked. This time we only do Uitspan, Doornkloof and Rooihoek only.

Will 2 BushLapa's fit on one site? We have site 2 booked.

The way I understand the site allocation at Doodsklip and Rooihoek, is that it will be allocated when you make the booking online via the East Cape Parks website. I could be wrong.

When we went in September, my booking form said Unit 1, and we were the only people. When I provisionally booked in December the reservation said Unit 5. So I assume the system goes down the numbers as it fills up.

Obviously we are in Africa so online systems vs gate instructions vs what he/she said all gets mixed up and you end up with issues.

Have a look at the booking form and this is what the T&Cs say.

    Yes. You should.

The picture below is site 6, not a great photo but you should get an idea of the size relative to the Landcruiser. Braai stand on the right. I didn't take any photos of the other sites that would show the overall site sizes.
