    Default 12HT build

I have been sitting on this one for a few years now, so its about time I got it together. I was going to put it in a FJ60 way back then, but I now have a perfectly good HZJ76. Weather i use it or sell it, I figure the best is to get it running, so here we go. All the big stuff is back from engineering and getting it sealed was/is my top priority.

    https:/https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/images/atthttps://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/images/attach/jpg.gifach/jpg.gif/www.4x4community.co.za/forum/images/attach/jpg.gif

Always the small things, I noticed that one of the head bolts had some rust on it, and tracked it to sleeves in the head which suround all the head bolts along the exhaust side. one or two had already been replaced, which was the giv away.

Nice. Ek het laas jaar die 4 silinder weergawe van daardie engine gedoen.
Vrywaring: Niks wat ek hier kwyt raak moet hoegenaamd as feite beskou word nie.

Umm, yes, I have to agree, but, believe it or not, gearbox compatability would be the first and most expensive problem. Nothing " Off the shelf" for a H150/151 or an R151. Using an H55 in a 76 is also a problem because it is so short and the front suspention arm mounts are right ther where the box would want to mount.
And pulling a perfectly good HZ (brand new at only 250K) for a 20 + year old donk , would not make Swambo happy. But, Ja, it would be lekker.

If I could solve the gearbox problem I would buy and old FJ80 and wack the 12HT in, and have a lekker weekend toy.

Yip, sorry, life got in the way again, father in law managed to crack a vertabre at the Marloth park cottage and we have been doing relays to Nelspruit hospital since then. But looking better, and it's my weekend off, so here we go again.
Confessions first: I did not have the head ready, but now I do, and the aim to to have a sealed engine so that I can start grinding and wire wheeling again.
Anyone else a fan of copper spray on the head gasket

Looking more like an enine now.

I need one of each of these, the nut may be available from Toyota or Gemini, but the bolt has been a problem to find.
Obviously the wide area head can be compensated for by an engineering washer, but its the extra shoulder bit that i cant find on other bolts. They are from the timing gears and hold the thrust plate and semi locate the gear holder (shaft). Not too demanding but it would be great to put the real thing back.

Manifold studs and nuts getting sorted. Nice copper nuts are nice until you get to the till.

We have replace a few R151 rattekaste with H151 rattekaste in the 70 Series Cruisers . The one's fitted with the 12 and 24 valve turbo engines we upgraded the H151 to the new H152 spec , that is with the longer 2nd and 5th gear ratio . The 5th gear then do 50kmph for every 1000 rpm on 265/75/16 tyres and 4.1 diff ratio .

    Thank you Oom Jan
Don't fotget we are talking about a 12HT here, if you know of an adaptor or bell housing to make them fit a H150/151/152, I would like to hear about it.

Oh, and I already have a H150 in my 76, thank you, works very well but still revs a little too high, the 235/85's help a bit and I am now considdering 4.1 diffs ( hz76's have 4.3's). I can't do much more with a HZ machine on board.

So, I get the record at having spent the least amount of money at N1 4x4. Less than 200 Randelas for some very special bolts, some tapit cover nuts, assorted bolts and nuts and an Injection Pump bracket. (the origional is cracked).
I pulled the rebuilt turbo apart , to align the oil and water feeds without damageing anything , lucky I had not had it balanced yet.
Everything now fits and I even put the compressor cover on to make it look real, and dream a bit.

Is there a good turbo place near Edenvale ( JHB) who will just balance the turbo for me. Just the assembeled centre cartrage, without long stories about wanting to do their own rebuild ect, ect.
( On Sunday I will officially be too old to hear long stories, and officially allowed to be an old fart)

Doing lots of the smaller things with a bit of "corrola" time on hand.
Sorted inlet manifold, cross over pipe, and water pump.
The bastards also had the wrong crank seal in the kit, this is 68 mmOD, and I need 72mm, probally find that the 2H is 68mm.

Haven't thought of a price yet, but I ceretainly would considder a swap for a 1HD or a 1HD-FT , as I don't have anything to put the 12-HT into, but my Hz76 would make friends with and 1HD, no problem.
