There is nothing wrong with the WRND unit. It is decent quality and well priced.

Guys, with all due respect, as said I am not a DIY type at ALL, so yes, I'm sort of comfy with the Asking Price (I have to be). Wanted to know if this will work in MY specific circumstances.

At R 8999. Lets get the Price out of the way first. Pricey yes, but look at what's included, and a 5 Year Guarantee to boot.

Is this THE solution for me??

    1) Occasional Oztent camping, with the fridge/lights in or near the tent(s)

    2) The fridge is used in more than one car

    3) Occasional caravan camping, the van only has 220v

    I have 2 x 85w solar panels.

So..isn't this the solution for, lets call it a "Beginner" that wants 12v in the 3 scenarios above?

Agree but if you look at features the NL is far better and I believe the CTEK as well. However the WRND is still R2000 odd so not exactly cheap. Basic good value.

    3) I like the compactness here, and everything is "tucked in", so it shouldn't be too prone to damage, its IS a portable unit after all and will get shifted a lot.

    So....
This box has everything that you need and it looks well put together. If you are not a DIY person and have the money buy it. As you mentioned NL service is great and a 5year warrantee is great to have.

Not everyone has the technical nous or DIY know-how that a lot of the forum members have. Personally, I simply would not be confident enough in my own handiwork to trust my own DIY set-up in the badlands of Savuti or Kaokoland. Peace of mind in the reliability and effectiveness of the product is definitely worth something, and IMHO I would be happy to pay a bit more for it.

OK then - If you do have R9k lying around rather stick this to a box :

    https://www.hcdpelectronics.co.za/in...&product_id=83

Check the detail under Product Features......

Or ask Manie at HCDP to do the box thing for you...

Petri the NL unit is perfect for your needs. Just hard wire each vehicle from the main battery to a Brad Harrison plug in the rear and you are good to go. They you buy your solar panels and have a BH plug fitted to them. I have done the same but with an Hcdp power pack. Makes versatility between vehicles very easy

So you still need to somehow mount it to a box, that you need to buy? What's the point. The NL comes complete.

This is the power pack that I use. It's limitation is that it's only good for 120w and Petri has 170w

Well......if the charger on the left is R 5750, then the Kgalagadi on the right (dc to dc) with " Price on Application" must be more, and maybe even in that R 8999 Ballpark figure of the NL??

What Im saying is maybe this NL is not THAAAAT crazy.

No they are just crazy. They add a solar charger to their old box basically and doubled the price.

Petri, I you like it buy it!. Its a nice setup.

I bought the snomaster box for R1800 and add a 20 Amp PWM charger for R600, which does the same as this NL one . Ok the snomaster box you have to manually disconnect the battery, but to void that I installed a solenoid in the vehicle for only R600 which disconnect the box.

The 2 units are the same. The one on the left has an ac charger, a dc charger, solar input and a modified sinewave inverter. The one on the right is made for a 3rd party company
