I received my inverter. Looks good. Comes with battery terminals too, which is cool. It also arrived with a universal plug adapter, which is completely useless, but still, it's the thought that counts!

I would take it that these "inverters" are approved and can not be grid tied?
Would be keen to see your setup's.

I had the same it's a result of our government regulations with regards imports. Only 3 imports per year allowed on your ID number. You will have to register as an importer and use your import number instead of your ID number.

What are you guys using for the outlet plug part? Can something more sturdy by built as opposed to my cheapie travel adapter? I plan on using 4mm cable from the inverter, so ideally a plug that can accommodate this size cable.

Why, even 1.5mm will be an overkill, and 2.5mm a serious overkill.

I bought both the 2 pin USA and the 3 pin UK. I gave it some thought and realized my multiplug would be useless with the 3 pin UK.
The 2 pin USA I can plug it into my lawnmower and edge trimmer cables which make convenient extension leads..

That is a modified sine and one cannot compare it with the model I started the posting. Glad to see a number of happy chappies.

But you can put the UK plug on the multiplug and plug in your trimmer as you have been doing in any other plug in your home?

I found the UK plug with the earth point a sturdy fit while the 2 pin Euro is a bit loose.

Of all the domestic plugs I have encountered around the world I like the UK 3 pin the best.

When used in the guise of the socket on the inverter you have a UK 3pin, Euro/SA 2/3 pin , SA 5A and North America 3 pin and North American 2 pin compatible socket.

Received my 4 kW (actually 2 kW) inverter this morning.

Tested it on an old deep cycle, and I was able to (separately) power my iron (measured at 1.6 kW) and Nespresso machine (measured at between 1 kW and 1.3 kW, depending on the setting).

The output voltage did seem to drop a bit when powering a heavy load, although I suspect that is the result of the deep cycle that has seen better days. The fan does come on when the unit is under heavy load, but it modulates its speed according to the required cooling.

The cabling that came with the inverter does seem well made, although it did get slightly warm (not enough to be a safety concern, however). I will replace this with thicker cabling in the future.

Switching noise is audible, however it shouldn't be bothersome if placed in another room or cabinet.

All in all, I'm very satisfied so far. Definitely a decent product, especially for the price.

So it's fine for a small bar fridge ? Bushpower Eco kit and 100ah battery ?

No it won't be suitable for a bar fridge as the bar fridge has a normal AC motor and you do need pure sine wave. Further depending on the hours from sunset that the bar fridge runs it would flatten a 100Ah battery before the PV has a suitable output. The bar fridge would draw about 8 amps and the period is about 14 hours of which the motor might run 10 hours as a guess. Some of the newer fridges have smaller compressors but they tend to run most of the time. If however it is an older Samsung or LG they tend to run for short periods and use less power than some cheaper brands. This assumption is based on the average bar fridge and not on the A+ low energy models.
