They look very much like the type often found on compost heaps. I believe the beetle is brown and round, about 8-10mm diameter. Don't know their name. I came to know the worm as a "miswurm".

If it is a borer beetle. I highly recommend quick action.

They are specialists in this field and a wise decision to have an inspection done.

They are Fruit Beetle Larvae. We had plenty of them in the compost as well. They are harmless (besides eating trees). We used to take them out, put them in a tray and watch the Olive Thrush's and Butcherbirds have a feast.

Yes the Chafer beetles are the ones known as "miswurms" what is worrying though is where these larvae where found. A habitat out if the ordinary for the species as far as I know.

I also thought it odd for a fruit beetle larva, we have a slab with parapets around where all our heating and cooling plant is hidden away about 3 meters from where the larvae came out, and that had some leaf material that was blocking the outlets before Christmas(water was nice peaty when we cleared the blockage), maybe they pulled in from there, the interesting question is why are they breaking INTO the house

Several months back there was an article about a case where lady specializing on all kind in insects kept hearing funny noise. Took quit an effort to identify the source. Some insects on the ceiling. Plenty of them on the ceiling living happily in the ceiling insulation. This was in Scandinavia so plenty insulation.

    https://www.is.fi/asuminen/art-2000006144385.html

    Google will translate.

It is a living world on the ceiling. I would have the lot properly identified and terminated. Only trouble is that there are no companies called Pest Terminators. They are Pest Control. So they kill some only to be able to come back later

Fully agree we also got then in the compost heap so I find it a bit strange that they would be in your roof unless it is a sign of some rotten timbers or something.

The beetles was our first step in to aviation caught them and tied a piece of cotton thread to the hind leg and let them fly like model planes. Cruel....?? but that is what we did before cell phones and I pads
