Default Pajero for all the wrong reasons

...So being a Landy fan..who was stung by Landrover...I think I made a mistake buying a lovely Pajero for all the wrong reasons.

She makes financial sense...is a good deal..has loads of potential..

The rumble of the V6 is great. The Super Select 4x4 works a treat and has impressed me..

BUT why does driving her feel like I am kissing my sister...like I sold my soul...like doing a SARS return and learning you have to pay in..

So much plastic and ...well old fashionedness.... and the drive...the drive...like a bus!

Lawd I miss that purr of the Td5..that sweet autobox..what have I done

I thought you would say you still put your hand up for all the Landy's but no one greets back - old habits don't die easily.
Strongs, hopefully the reliability of the Pajero will eventually prevail in your mind.

Nah. The Pajero is not like kissing your sister. It is rather like having that one best mate that you know you can phone in the middle of the night if you are stuck somewhere or need to get bailed out of a sticky situation and you just KNOW he will get out of bed and come to your aid, no questions asked, as you would do for him.

Just drive it. Like a good friendship is build up over many years, the Pajero will win you over in the end.

Go and get the excitement from the places that you visit with your Pajero.

As ek die finansies vir n pajero gehad het, het ek verseker een gery. Hulle ry so gemaklik. Tou soos n droom. Kan enige obstacle met gemak tackle

N lande is bietjie soos n dakota. Baie old school charm. Baie capable. Nie die gemaklikste ride ooit nie. So nou mis jy die stampe en stote, soos airplane noise (maw ek het langs n lughawe grootgeword en maande na ek getrek het daai geraas elke dag gemis)

Gee kans. Jy gaan leer om haar te love

Thanks CATS your signature speaks volumes..you are indeed someone whose advice holds weight...

Needing to spend some money...new shocks...front end refresh...Radiator recore and then replace all hoses and belts...ouch!

She has plenty grunt low down. No lifter noise but seems like she is not performing like she should. Maybe she will run better after the service? Who knows?

    Look.

All I say is give the Pajero a chance. I also had some Landies in my life and they hold a special place, but not as much as my Pajero's. But hey, we are all different so if it really aint your thing after a few months then only you will know, and the thing with most Pajero owners is that it will be accepted and life will go on. You are still welcome around the fire.

It seems like you are already planning to spend money? Why? Does it have issues? Maybe first drive it as is and feel if it works for you. Radiator is obviously critical if that needs attention and new shocks will never do harm, but you don"t need to throw money at it to enjoy it. Just put in juice and go.

I had a jeep TJ , XJ and a daihatsu Rocky all good for different reasons ,price space etc and of course my current Pajero , the one that I really enjoyed was the XJ very capable in all conditions big enouph for my use for many travels ( Zim, Bots, Malawi, and Tanzania) but it got old so replaced with Gen 4 Pajero SWB more for fun than overlanding , its not as good but extremely reliable , I never owned a Land rover but have driven a Defender
