Default Axpert VM 2KW inverter solar charging problem

    Hi
I have an Axpert VM 2KW inverter (mppt) with 2 x 330w solar panels and 2 x 100ah sla batteries in parallel for 24v. (solar panels in series)
The system is mainly to be used as a UPS for load shedding. (total load +- 150 - 200w)
When the solar panels was installed it was a rainy day and the solar immediately started charging the battery although the output wasn't great 10-15w which I thought was because of the rain.
The next day was sunny, but although the panels were at more than 80v it was not using the panels for charging the batteries and instead it was using grid power.
I have set the load priority and the charging priority to solar, but as soon as the battery voltage drops, it uses grid power to top up the batteries.
If the set the display to show the PV charge current it changes between 1A and 0A every 2 seconds.
Any help / suggestions would be appreciated.

(I bought the inverter from someone who had the same problem for a good price, so if all else fails I will get an external charge controller)

Maybe join the Powerforum and ask same question

..methinks external solar controller will not save the day. (could be wrong)

Normally one would think with the volts at 80V the controller is not loading the panels to bring the voltage down and up the current. Current on a sunny day with batteries partially discharged could provide more than 8A.

what is the voltage of the solar panels
serial or" string" as some call it or parallel

    how many cells per panel

that model only wants about 60 v pv input

Op indicated panels in series and could be about 80V. My specs indicated this inverter with MPPT controller can accept up to 102V in a string.
