Default Road closure Jozini Kozi Bay

Jus to let know to those i the area between the Pongola river bridge and the circle at Phelindaba is closed due to unrest action and they say it will continue until Saturday. The Mbazwana Hluhluwe road is open and Mbazwana Jozini is open.

Luckily I went past there last week. On another note, going through Jozini on a Saturday during mid day, with a boat in tow, and the Rok fully loaded was interesting. Temperatures were somewhere in the 40`s. It was murder on the clutch (traffic congestion on the uphill into town), but the Rok took it in it`s stride. Saw a black Navara standing next to the road during this time, and wondered what the issue was. The caravan it was towing was left at the town of Jozini. Hope they got back safely to Gauteng, I assume.

I have subscribed to this thread to keep up to date with what is happening in the area. There is a group of us that will be heading through Jozini to Kosi mouth at the end of April that this could affect if it's ongoing.
If that route is a problem at the time we will have to go via Hluhluwe which will add about 70km and 40 minutes to our trip from Jo-Burg.
Thanks for keeping us updated Shemula.

Paul, for peace of mind perhaps contact me a day or so prior to leaving, I can assist with up to date happenings after contacting Ernie and also checking the other routes for you.

Thanks Riaan. I will defiantly give you a shout closer to the time again.
As you see I'm coming back to your stomping ground for the next installment after so enjoying our last visit there.

Awesome Paul, you must stop in at Shemula Lodge on the way and say hello to Ernie - a Land Rover man so you have a thing or two in common

I have travelled these roads this past holidays from Ballito to Kosi Bay and back. Going there using the Hluhluwe - KwaManguse road and coming back the KwaManguse - Jozini road. If you are travelling from the south (Durban area) to Northern Maputoland or the South of Mozambique, the Hluhluwe - KwaManguse road is the better option by far. Good road surface, less traffic and missing Jozini altogether. Hluhluwe - KwaManguse road adds about 20 km's but travel time is less. Unfortanetly for Gauteng travellers it is quite a detour.
