I will post the date lets see who turn up
how much modification will be allowed for the softies on the dune challenge? I’m actually pretty keen. FL2 has so far impressed me seriously with its sand driving ability.... I know it’s still a softy and where it’s shortfalls lie, and I have a serious 4x4 for the real tough stuff, but would enjoy a challenge like this.
my softroader has a 20mm lift and 31inch AT tires

This is going to be fun
SWAMBO drives a Kuga. 2.0 TDCI , it's pretty nippy, goes great in snow and mud amd cruises along roads with ease. Big downside is that the suspension is fairly rigid as a soft suspension would cause it to sway when doing bends at speed. I wouldn't drive one if I thought I'd be spending considerable time on rough roads or tracks.
Oh OK, then I'm out an modern 4wd SUV wil never go where an old school cruiser or Defender can go

I drive a outlander which has 190mm clearance
I see the kuga has 188mm
Although my outlander is 4wd with a low 1st gear lock it helps nothing without clearance
Took it to mokala where is drove effortless on all the teraain except the really rocky stuff where clearance alone was the issue. So all the fancy stuff it has counts for zilch as i could not go down a rocky path without damaging the vehicle where my pajero and triton 4x2 go down without worries just because they have clearance

Probably the most accurate post here.
I have the Kuga and I have done the Groenkloof route. I skipped a few obstacles and also the mountain pass due to ground clearance.
If it was not for that I think the Kuga would be able to do most of it.
I have driven it in sand and it handled very well. Sand is all about tyre pressure and the driver. I drove where a Land Cruiser double cab and Discovery 3 got stuck. Their tyres were really hard. So the vehicles can do a lot more than we think.
