By your definition, a Renault Duster is more of a 4x4 then a G-Class, and a G-Class is less of a 4x4 than a Discovery 3/4......

I was thinking the same thing. The Duster also has a transfer case and decent ground clearance 210mm that is only 10mm less than a Prado TX, is a Prado a real 4x4?

Given the Duster doesn’t have low range it does have a short 1st gear like an Amarok 4x4, is the Amarok a real 4x4?

And it has the electronic traction control to compensate for a lack of difflock.

BTW my Jeep Wrangler Shahara did not have difflock only a lsd.

Not saying I would compare my Dusty with a Wrangler, but with a set of decent AT tyres it seems to blur the lines a bit!

If we are talking REAL 4x4 offroads, by some of the guy’s definitions, then only SFA’s with difflock front, rear and center with lowrange should qualify. And I can only think of a hand full of examples. Wrangler Rubicon, Geländewagen, Pinzgauer, Steyr Puch and of course the boss of all 4x4 vehicles the Unimog!

My explanation is not about the technicalities of the vehicle but what it is intended for by the designers.

Think of Touareg, ML, GL, D1-5, Cruiser 200, Lexus, Patrol, etc.
Yes, they have all the tools but not intended for serious off-roading and bundu bashing. Consider their front bumpers. Can any of them take on a 40mm thick tree stump without damage?

As jy wil weet wat jou Kuga kan doen, vra die manne wat Citi Golfs gehuur het en die Namib loop invaar het. Baie bedrewe karretjie gewees daai en hy is heelwat laer as jou moderne Crossover of SUV.

Wees braaf en gaan ry n paar 1-3 gegradeerde roetes en kyk wat jou voertuig kan doen.
